Traditional or Digital

I pencil on paper and do everything else in photoshop. I have done pages entirely digitally (not for my main comic, but for other projects) and it's quite convenient, but I really enjoy drawing directly onto paper, and I find it easier on the hands than working with a tablet.

I currently do a combination of both. I draw the page and then scan it in and work over it digitally. However, I'm trying to change my approach so that my comic doesn't look SO digital, but I'm beginning to find my style.

All of my work on Johnny Bullet is digital. I've been using a Wacom Cintiq since 2007. I enjoy traditional work too but nowadays it's mostly to stretch and warm up. Digital allows me to produce my comic strip quickly on a tight schedule

I'm 100% digital, as I have a team helping me create my current comic, and they both live halfway across the country from me, and each other. Having everything remain digital simplifies the process and makes file sharing much easier. I usually prefer digital anyway, as I don't have to worry about scanning and cleaning up anything if I want to upload it.

For comics, I do everything on paper but the tones/coulour and text. I find doing comics digitally really tiring as you have to be 24/7 in front of the screen, and, if the computer brokes down, you lose everything... But of course, making it traditionally takes more time because if you make mistakes you have to start from zero that page and that stuff.

i am a traditional artist so i work on paper, i agree with you i love working with my hands and love learning from my mistakes. I love finding ways to accomplish certain effects and get an emotion through my traditional work. if that is details or just colors, but i do my text on paper because my writing can be sloppy at time XD

but i also can try to correct any mistake like if i draw a line way too long and i don't have white out then i will use Photoshop.

@Foxjorch I was exactly the same until last week, I got my new cintiq and now im drawing mainly 100% digitally.
That being said, I will still draw on paper from time to time. ^^

I've been working full digital for a few months.

In the beggining of End. I would sketch everything on A4, scan, and my friend would make the lineart on the computer, then I would make the tones and lettering digitally. After the first chapter, I think, I started to do End. all digitally.

I also do Delphinium digitally, but I use only FireAlpaca for sketching, sketching was my main problem, I am not good at aketching with CLip Studio, Photoshop or SAI, just FireAlpaca works for me. But backgrounds I do everything on Clip Studio, also lineart and panels. Then I fill the base colors on Fire Alpaca, their paint bucket is amazing, and gooo back to Clip Studio xD

This back and forth is not annoying as it may sound, and I use the best of each program =3 Paint bucket is great, but you need a very clean lineart for that, so you decide if you take longer on lineart or on painting, let's say.

Traditional lineart used to be easier, but then I discoveres Clip/Manga Stuido! And my life got better xD

Comic strips are all digitally, it is easier to ctrl+c ctrl+v.

I work almost entirely traditional. Don't know if making speech bubbles and text on computer counts?
I tried out for the first time making speech bubbles digitally when I was working on Venus Effect, on other projects I only do the lettering on computer but I wanted to make something different on VE.
I prefer working with traditional medium a lot more then with digital since I'm much more comfortable with it.

I like doing it digitally. It's easier and cheaper in the long run. I can't seem to find any cheap art stores that sell supplies or even screentones hahahahhaa

Nothing compares to the feeling of pen on paper, if you ask me.
I have been opening up to digital art recently though, including doing everything from scratch on the computer. I used to draw and ink on paper, scan it and then do the finishing touches , like screen tones and such, digitally.
It's still my preferred method.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one doing it all this way. My handwriting is absolutely rubbish (I could pass as a doctor) and my sketches are very rough and messy.

I find it easier to panel the pages traditionally and that changes very little to the finished product, but the actual content within them never looks like what it started as. x-x

I'm actually a good example of Traditional Vs Digital I think as my comic Shades Of Men went through most of the stages!

I first started drawing the comic on paper, using pencil and ink.
I would color the page through Photoshop using a bamboo tablet.

This worked for me at the beginning, however due to the fact that I had less time working on the computer, that I spent a lot of time in transportation and that I was offered a mini-Ipad. I slowly changed my habits and end up coloring my inked pages using the apple device.

After finishing my stack of inked pages, I end up doing the line work digitally, over my thumbnails and coloring these.

Now I do all digital (starting from chapter 3)! I like the organic feel of pencil and ink but it does take more time and space. Working digitally offers more flexibility and efficiency which you can't deny.

I'm a hybrid artist actually. I prefer to draw traditionally, then after I scan it in I prefer to color it in photo shop. Due to the way you can layer it, you can make it look like "the color was always there" in a way that traditional coloring can't quite match.

Bah! When I started drawing, computers were only used to calculate the trajectory of artillery. We had to walk 20 kilometres bare foot to get to the nearest one, and when we got there, we didn't complain!

Anyway, I sketch with pencil and paper since it's a heck of a lot easier to rotate the damn thing and get a good feel of where you're going with the picture. After that, I fix, scale, arrange and ink with Manga Studio.

100% Digital >.< I can't live without my tablet now.
I love the traditional experience, but I feel very clumsy on paper, compared to it, my digital workflow goes to light velocity.
