Traditional (Print) Comic Community

Since this is a thread full of people using the traditional print format, I was wondering, how many of you have actually printed your books?

I myself have completed 2 books of Trespasser and have had them both printed. The first one was in 2021 and the 2nd in 2023. (I expect the 3rd book will get printed in 2026)

I've printed none, excluding silkscreen zines and commissions.

I'd go the indie publishing route 100%, but I want to make an artist edition run with my silkscreen and bookbinding experience. I think it'd make for a cool memento.

I feel you on the panels thing...
I think what helps me is trying to see them less as images and more as how I think or feel of memories.

Reflecting back, I think I've gotten less ambitious as I wasn't fixed on practicality.
Then again, I imagine that if I were to do more action scenes, that'd be a different story, but I'll see when I cross that bridge.

I'd absolutely recommend printing it if just as a memento for yourself! It's such a great feeling to have your comic existing in the real world

It was a great feeling to have my first posters, record covers, t-shirts, stickers printed with my art work.
The feeling of seeing my printed comic was incredible and it was only 8 pages printed in a magazine.

One cool effect of it was that I felt more self confident about my art when I saw it printed because
it looks better printed than on the screen.

I´m working on a bigger story right now which I will send to publishers to have a printed comic book
in the comic shops, that´s one of my goals. Hardcover DINA4 would be great

I was in a few local collections back in the 1990s, a strip in the university newspaper became widely read enough that the competing university newspaper interviewed me, and I made uncounted numbers of mini-comics.

However the reward of "accolades from your peers" and "exposure" are not worth the effort I need to put in. As a result the desire to be in print isn't there anymore.

Hell, the desire to post online is barely registering a heartbeat. Nowadays it's more a case of, "Well, I drew it. I guess I should show it to someone."

Ooh, no problem, sorry I couldn't be of use. That stuff is all greek to me. I can see that being a challenge but I'm glad you're figuring things out. Just don't judge folks who don't use alt text too hard, some may have Aphasia or thought disorders that make it hard to communicate with words, verbal and written. Not saying you do, but it's become more common to think less of visual artists who don't. Also not saying I have these, I just empathize.

I don’t work in print production but I started self publishing ten years ago before being picked up by a couple publishers. My knowledge about production has kind if gone out the window the past few years since I don’t handle it myself anymore. I still keep whats online available but I don’t update it much since print is priority now!

I'm glad your comic was a way for you to get out of a dark place. I hop you're doing and feeling s much better now. It's a healthier trade off.

However all that being said there are some advantages to the form of story telling. There are certain ways you can manipulate time and flow through the use of what space that would criminally negligent in the print format. Basically white space is free in the web comic format and that can be used to your advantage.

That's a solid assessment. Virtual space doesn't necessarily have the same financial mileage to creator when done digitally. Grim comparison, but it reminds me of inactive pages sill being viewable online. Unless the server is down, internet space is akin to permanent space.
