Trying a new art style- Thoughts? :/

So we're going to be doing a little steampunk/Lovecraftian visual novel project, which is why I am trying out a new art style a tad different from what I use in my comics. I'd like to ask for some feedback since I really want to make the art look as good as my meager skills will be able to. What do you think?

I think it looks nice, but if you're going for a Lovecraftian/Steampunk type of visualnovel, wouldn't be better if you added a darker atmosphere to the style? For example using more decayed tones & less light and more shadows.

I think it looks pretty cute! I like it, but I'm not sure how well it would fit in with the steampunk/Lovecraft themes. When I think steampunk I think of dull dirty tones of brown and yellow, and when I think Lovecraft I think of dark colors. Have you tried using a duller, darker palette?

here are my thoughts:

1. color choices for the hair and the shirt are very good
2. the ultimate black tone of shading doesn't fit with the rest of color palette, its needs to be lightened a bit
3. regarding how this is gonna fit in a lovecraftian fiction.. well, 'am not really into VNs, but i think i saw couple of horror-themed ones out there with cutie art style
4. i'd agree with @Puppisama and @nessiefynn that it needs more gloomy colors, decaying and rusty effects

i love the background and use of colour, its pleasing to the eye and communicates the tone well, but im worried the contrast between bg style and main style is too wide; youve gone for lineless in the background, and its really working, but then you have thick black lines in the character. Maybe make the lines a dark brown instead; work in sepia tones in general actually, given your theme.

also, maybe change the head/shoulder ratio; the shoulders are too narrow for that head.

I love the textures. I think my only complaint is some of the facial features. Maybe try desaturating the eyes a bit - it feels a bit jarring compared to the other colors - you can still have that liquid eye effect with just the contrast from the highlights. The nose line work seems a bit to thin but that might be more a personal preference

I like the style! But I don't think I would really recognize it as steampunk at first sight, maybe try to look up for steampunk fashion and mix up some stuff to create the character, that would really help!
