Thoughts on Upload Schedules as a small creator?

I just started 6 weeks ago but it's been very important for me to have a consistent schedule - uploading every Sunday. I know some creators prioritize just uploading sometime within once a week or once a month (which ever the schedule is) so does it matter as a small creator to post on a specific day?

I guess I'm worried about this because I posted a few days late this week - I didn't have time from my personal life to upload pages even though they were done - also, I'm just recovering from a small wrist injury so even though I made a buffer of 7 episodes before starting the comic I'm back to square one scrambling! Exactly what I wanted to avoid but I guess there's nothing I can do about, life happens!

ALSO - wondering if Sunday is the best day for uploading, not sure it even matters at all.

If you want to check out my comic and the uploads I have up now, please do! A modern fantasy romcom about a young vampire trying to navigate her twenties with her human friends! 'Blood Soda' !

Hey there! = v =)/
Well, if you're asking me, I do stick to an uploading schedule. Some of my novels--that have word counts less than 1k, is uploaded approximately every 3 days. I usually would schedule some episodes also just so i could take a breather in between uploading. For the longer chapters, I would settle between once every 5 days or once a week.
Some of the artists whom I followed have uploading cadence, either:
- 4 week consecutive upload with one week hiatus in between, or
- once every 10 days.
You can decide which suits you the best!
Hope you get well soon! >w<)/
And yes, I will be shamelessly pasting the link of my novel here XD
Do check it out! :sparkling_heart: owo)b

i do a minimum of one a week for my stories if i can manage it, with occasional bonus episodes

I used to upload once a week (Saturdays) for a year and a half (nix a few burnout months), but recently changed to a 1.5 (10 day) weekly schedule so I could focus on other projects. As a highly productive procrastinator, it's been a lifesaver.

I don't think the day of the week actually matters, just as long as you inform your readers of any sched changes and maintain some kind of consistency. Anyone who's subbed will get notified. The no-subs will just have to suffer :imp:

Welcome to Tapas! It can be very beneficial to have a consistent schedule. Your readers will know what day to expect updates from you, and I find it motivates me to get my strips done in time.

As for the day you choose to post each week..it's really up to you. I would recommend choosing a time where your readers will be active online. I upload on Tuesdays around lunchtime in my time zone, then PST readers get it first thing in the morning. But if Sundays work best for you, then I think that's what you should keep doing!

Here's my comic if you'd like to check it out! It's a slice of life with a deaf MC

Heya! I'm gonna pass some advice to you that I received in the forums before I started updating my comic...

Advice is, you have a full color comic--that gets you more clicks than a black and white comic. You are good to not upload weekly, as that is a tip for black and white comics. You can go as far down as once monthly if you'd like.

Maybe I'm not interpreting what you wrote correctly, but it sounds like you haven't been utilizing the scheduling option that Tapas has when you upload your work. Scheduling out ahead of time will prevent you from scrambling around on the day of.

Best advice for staying on track with updates is building a backlog. I know this can take a LOT of time and effort, but it's worth doing while you're under a short hiatus. That way, once updates start again, they'll be more consistent, and it will give you a breather on time with getting pages done.

Hope this helps! Best of luck~

Thanks for the feed back! I haven't heard the thought on b/w comics needing to upload more frequently than full color, though I guess that makes sense.

My biggest issue now is I've used up my whole buffer because of my wrist injury, I allotted myself 7 weeks time to keep drawing but I couldn't >m<

I should probably schedule further out in the future - I was scheduling about 5 days ahead so that I could go over the pages and make any adjustments or fix mistakes with fresh eyes.

I say the same thing to everyone about a schedule. Have one and let the readers know. If your next book comes out in two weeks, just let them know. Them knowing is the only important thing, not the time between. Even if you have a weekly schedule, but one time will be 4 days late, just update the reader so they know and can anticipate the release.

I did the exact same thing as you. I gave myself a big buffer of a month which worked for a while with my once a week upload schedule. Then I went on vaction, caught covid, and my buffer completely vanished. I barely managed to keep up until I realized switching my upload day to fit my new work schedule would help a lot. Now I'm slowly trying to build it back up. But I'm not stressing to much since I found what worked for me after fumbling around for a bit.

And this one it's in the description that it won't have regular uploads since it's my for fun project. I removed the upload stress for it completely this way so it can keep being my for fun only project.
