Should a fantasy story always be set in the woods?
Honestly, I think I often lead toward urban fantasy set in cities and such with my longer stories, while I have a couple of short stories set in tropical/jungle environments (island girlie here.) But my newest story, "Crystal Blue" is a combination of the two, being set in a semi-rural area of Montana, where there is a small city, but also a lot of fields and forests. Maybe the best of both worlds?
What kind of fantasy worlds do you prefer? Subtle fantasy that weaves the odd into a setting that otherwise seems normal? Or do you prefer fantasy stories to transport you into an entirely different world than your own?
Along those lines, do you prefer your fantasy settings to be in more modern-day settings, or back in time with swords and kinds etc?
My rather outdated fantasy stories, at least at the moment don't go quite as far back as Medieval (have one that's probably late 17s or such, more cottage core) or they aren't European-inspired, so either way I can't fit into those categories lol.
