Usefulness of Ad Banner and 'Thank You For The Subscription' Art

Do you use the 280 x 180 px ad banner? If so, what do you use it for, and how does that work out for you? I was thinking of using one on my series, but I figured it would be silly to link back to itself.

When I thank subscribers for following my story, I often see that others do the same thing by posting a "Thank You For The Subscription" image for theirs. My understanding is that this isn't so much for the subscriber as it is an advertisement for people who follow their profile messages. But does that make any difference?

I use the little ad banner to link to my Patreon, and that works out okay. It's an easy way to always have my Patreon visible. I might update it to a link tree allowing people to buy the books though.

I've never sent people a "thank you for subscribing!" image. Like, I don't think they're bad, it's just that since the huge majority of users are on the app and never see their walls, and most people don't see a lot of other people's walls either. In my experience, drawing other people fan art is a stronger way to use other people's works to advertise your own and it's mutually helpful (because fan art makes the person who receives it look more popular and their work has a higher perceived value too!).

I'm glad I never got into the habit of sending every subscriber an image though... If you ever get featured, you'll understand what a nightmare it'd be to keep on top of that.

Oh, the Patreon thing sounds useful! I didn't take into consideration that you could link to something on another site.

I rarely ever look at my own wall, and I don't look at any others' aside from giving them a quick thank you for subscribing, so that makes sense. Fan art does sound a lot more useful (and just nice!)

I think I have an idea. On another site, I used to make unique sketches for every individual subscriber I got, and that became unwieldly. It felt like the more I did, the more kept coming, like some sort of Sisyphean task. Even thanking individual subscribers might have to come to a stop if the influx of them ever gets too high. But for now, I'm going to stick to the quick 'thank you's.

Honestly, I still thank every subscriber even when I'm featured. It's quite nice to take a look at their profile and see what other works they've subscribed to besides yours.

Besides, having a thank-you image works wonders when you have more than a single series to promote. You never know what other creator might stumble upon your thank-you image and get attracted to it. I see it as a simple and efficient way to connect with my subscribers and promote my works.

Ohhhh! I'll keep that in mind when I start up my second series, thank you. Do novels still get featured on this site? I don't know if I'm aiming for that myself, but I am curious, since I know you have quite a few of them.

Yes, novels still do get featured! The visibility and diversity of novel picks have decreased in recent years, unfortunately. But yes, it is still ongoing.

I used to use my Ad banner to link to my twitter, but now twitter is dead to me with how much the site sucks now, I may switch it to my Patreon instead. I've seen people use it to link to their Ko-fi, their instagram, their link tree, wherever they want their follower audience to follow them.

As for the thank you's, they're not as popular as they used to be because you can only see the wall on the browser. That and like, if someone has a private library--maybe don't post "thanks for subbing to me!" directly on their wall. I have a private library and I get these thank you posts all the time, which is fine because no one looks at my wall, but also kind of like...I keep this private for a reason.

Was going to do this interesting Ad Banner project where... okay since the characters come from different worlds, I was gone to specialize the banner I give to a certain user. Specifically people who're writing for a certain genre.

Is someone writing a romance comic and subscribed to me? They get a Naota banner.

Is someone writing a superhero comic or a sci-fi comic? They get a Quincy banner.

Something like that. I WANNA do fanart but I don't know how to approach it since I stopped using Twitter. I was thinking I'd just draw stick figures of characters from another comic. Like they've been isekai'd.
