Variant covers for your comics

Do you do that for your comics?
I started doing some, that are pop culture reference but have my
characters instead. It's a lot of fun work in progress

I personally don't, and don't even use a cover for my comic unless it's gone to print. I find variant covers are better for bonus material, or if your work is especially coveted, makes for fantastic promotional items. I also feel that unless your readers are familiar with the pop culture references, folks might miss the significance of it.

Like, personally, I'm not really sure what you're referencing in the covers you posted (the art is superb though!), so...

AH! Alright see, I'm a little dumb so it didn't immediately jump at me. I saw different promo art for Scandal so I thought that was what they used universally, whoops!

I don't know if I could ever add variant anything to my own comic, except maybe the Breakfast Club? XD

One of my first options to draw was breakfast club I choose another film at the end

That's so crazy because I'm making my next front cover a breakfast club reference :^0

Since my story is set in the 1980s period it's a nice little nod

I pretty much do have two variant covers. The one I selected and the one that became the cover for Act 3 of book 1.

This is a neat idea! One of my covers was my MC posing in a Miles Davis album. I might try it again sometime.

I'll show a WIP shot of the cover in question just for fun - the characters are all dressed like Breakfast Club characters.

The actual pose though is from a shoot by the band that inspired the comic, "Franz Ferdinand" - post-punk UK band I've always loved. Yeah I love pop culture references.

Not a variant cover person. Now "homages"- that I do. In fact the current web cover for Ch 3 of my comic is a homage to the cover of Superman #1 in 1987...
