I heard an argument the other day that the word "minorities" is problematic. I'm like, no offense, but this is just round 458 of exclusionary, ingroup/outgroup verbiage designed to identify those who are not woke enough this week, to punish them. Next week it'll be another word.
Speaking of which, I was once in the US military, and as part of our annual "sensitivity training" they would pass around a list of words that were too offensive to say. We had to read the list and sign a sheet to acknowledge we'd read it. Many I'm sure you could all name.
One of the words, though, was "female."
Because.
During Basic Training, some Training Instructors (TIs), when they saw a woman trainee doing something she ought not do, would occasionally yell, "Hey! Female! Don't do that!" If they didn't know her name. And some woman, somewhere, noticed that they never yelled "Hey! Male!" on a base that was 80% men. And she complained about the discrepancy. So legally we couldn't say female. It became this huge joke.
This is the logical extreme end point of political correctness. And I say this as a woman: this was extreme stupidity that only served to move the cause of feminism backward a step. Someone, somewhere, should have intervened before the word police got hold of "female" and banned it.
