Was it easy for you to get started with comics/novels?

I thought about making comics for a long time before I started. Felt I wasn't good enough, embarassed to post etc. But it made me wonder, was it easy for you to get started? And with "started", I mean actually creating something somewhat finished, either a comic or novel, and maybe posting it online.

I used it as a transition. When I was little, all my toys had backstories and the villains were evil for actual reasons. When I got older, I decided to write stories instead of play with toys. It was an easy transition. However I wasn't a genius. I wrote like a preschooler and my stories were extremely lacking. I am self taught, but it has been 15 to 20 years in the making and I still have lots to learn. If you stop learning, your stories stop evolving.

Wow, it’s been 4 years since I started making comic. I think I was lucky because I didn’t even know that webcomic is a thing and looking around sites to post my comic until I knew Tapas. I was confident because I had no comparison with other comics and just upload what I had. So I got it very easy by not having to compare myself.

I've always been shy and pretty reserved, so it took me many years to get the courage to start my comic and posting it on the internet, even though I had always wanted to draw manga from a young age. Art school also made me doubt my skills and ability, which made me hesitate a few more years, until I finally decided that I should just do what I want and start. So far I've been very grateful about the webcomic community being so supportive

I don't know that I would say it was easy or hard for me, but it was definitely different. I've been writing stories in prose for around 12 years, now, so for me, it was mainly the transition to writing in script form that was challenging to me. My first few scripts were pretty rough, to say the least, but I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it.

I have always loved writing, to express myself in ways verbal words couldn't, so I started writing poems.
I also, wanted to write stories and create novels, but I never thought I would be able to, so I never tried, until two weeks ago. I prayed, opened a document, and then words just begin to flow; I am truly grateful that I found the courage to do so.
So, for me, I would say that it was process.

Well I've always dreamed of creating a story of my own, ever since I was a child. I remember writing entire pages on my diary about my characters. I also used to have imaginary adventures with my, well, imaginary friend and pretended we were characters from a tv series (I know it might sound silly ).

I used to write short novels and stories revolving my characters on microsoft word and I would also write comics on notebooks from time to time (It was from 2008 to 2015, so since the age of 6 all the way to 13).

Ever since 2016 I started drawing digitally and I used to draw lots of concept arts for another series of mine. It was only in 2020 though, that I finally got the courage to start writing a comic and, finally, in summer of 2020 I started publishing it on both Tapas and Webtoon.

I don't quite know how to describe this feeling, but if I were to, I'd say it is like a burning passion, a strange compulsion I need to satisfy every single time. Whenever an idea for a good story pops out in my mind, I can't do anything else but start writing it down!

We've all been there. I actually drew my comic on paper and it got stolen at school the first time, I didn't want to draw again until I felt the urge to start and finish my story.
So, in terms of getting the story for my comic, yeah it was kinda easy but it took a while(2 years) before I could get the story right. But when it came to actually drawing, my art skills were bad at the time so I had to improve for six extra months before restarting my comic.
TLDR: It depends on what story you have to offer and how often the idea of such story comes to you. Some stories would require intense planning while some are something that could be created on a whim. In other words, to me, it wasn't easy but I had to keep moving forward. I've been planning my comic for 6 years so I'm ready to see it through to the end no matter what.
