Webcomic artists, what is the step by step process for your drawings, and what is your art schedule?

Currently my stuff is on hiatus due to The Grind, so there is no schedule, but I can share my process. It's basically the same whether I'm doing a page or illustration. (Bare in mind these process sketches are old.)

1. After thumbnailing I pull out my bristol, and layout the panels, speechbubble placement and what not with a loose pencil sketch. I ink the panels first because I'll end up losing where they are otherwise. The panels and horizon lines are done with a graph ruler.
   

   

2. I ink in everything with a 005 blue Prismacolor pen. The speechbubbles, speed lines and "SFX" are done with a black 05 pen.
   

   

3. I don't have the comic pics for this, but afterwards I color everything in with color pencils, this is usually the most time consuming part. The coloring process is summed up in this Q&A thing I did 100 years ago:

1. I reink everything with black pens. (03 Prisma and 08 Micron.)

2. Add in the little shin details and such with white ink and a fine tip brush.

3. Fill in the gutters with black and I'm done.

Sometimes I'll set up some 3D models to reference if a pose and angle is really dynamic, but most of the time I wing it. After a while you get a feel for how the anatomy in a pose would geeeenerally look, and I like to do exaggerations when it can benefit a scene or panel.

The art style I use is really simple, with no faces or hands, so it usually goes
Thumbnail, Inking, Color, Text

There is something called looking for references, using posable 3d models and similar. Bust most importantly, practice

I literally said "what do I do if there's no reference" and you said to look for references before any other stuff.

There is always a reference, you just need to be creative and figure out how to use the tool for your benefit, you won't always find a 100% accurate reference, so work with what you have and figure out the rest, use your brain. Creativity comes in the shape to solve problems too, not everything is served in a golden plate, that's how you learn skill as well.

If you’ve studied anatomy you won’t need the reference pose to be a perfect one to one match. You find something close to what you’re looking for, or you combine multiple references, and you use your art skills to fill in the gaps!

At least, that’s what I do.

Sometimes I thumbnail before hand, sometimes I don’t. Otherwise, this pretty much…

1. Sketch out general layout and pacing of characters (very simple, kind gesture-y)
   1.5 sketch following the flow of conversation, sketch in speech bubbles as I go
2. Look up references that mast the gist of poses and expressions
3. Drawing and lining characters
4. Screenshot 3D model of setting, drag into photoshop for backgrounds
5. Re-draw backgrounds
6. Multiple layers for flats
7. Paint shadows and details on locked layers
8. Text and speech bubbles

I know. I actually made the choice to do a full page if hand drawings for the practice because you said to practice, and i’ll do the same for gesture sketches.

I’m not sure what practice will make my story no longer generic teenage trash masquerading as a magnum opus, but i’m sure i’ll find something.

Focus on your stuff and stop bothering others, especially by tagging them in unrelated stuff on other posts, have some reading comprehension, it's about sharing your work as if YOU hated it, not using other people's words who criticized it.

I didn’t realize it sounded like I was trying to argue with you. I never meant to come off as defensive, I genuinely meant it when I thanked you, but I guess I let my personal petty thoughts bleed in and it came out wrong. I genuinely meant what I said, and I didn’t mean anything malicious by it.

I'm sorry for whining about you insulting my comic and turning myself into the victim again. I didn't mean for it to come off that way, and I should have stopped to pay attention rather than letting my personal feelings get into it like this. This is even less excusable because I had a whole epiphany that your personal opinion actually matters less than what I think of my story, so I had no excuse to be complaining. I honestly should have stopped at thanking you, maybe also apologized, and then never thought of this situation again.

This thread was going well but you had to start a back and forth with an individual and soiled the experience.
