So I started a webtoon not so long ago (around like 1 year ago) and I wanted to know more tricks to rise my views or tricks for very useful promotions... I do use my instagram and twitter to make promotions but I feel like the alagorithm
isn't working too well ! I recently saw there was actually a community in Tapas and not on Webtoon which is pretty sad since I'm mostly a webtoon user :frowning:I don't want to seem like someone to complain but yeah... I need help with having good rates/views for me to finally hit my dreams to becoming an artist/webtooner

From my understanding, Webtoons either got rid of or no longer has a Forum for people to communicate on as a Community.

If you're wanting just general tips for improving your internet presence, this forum does have several tips and suggestion threads laying about- generally talking about post often, post regularily, and tag everything on whatever social media you do use.

I'm debating whether or not to continue updating on Webtoon because while I thought a comic in my style would find a larger audience there it has not, in fact, found much of an audience at all. I have found that the users on Webtoon seem to be much more keen on commenting on every new comic but overall the growth has been... non-existent. Meanwhile here on Tapas I've been on hiatus for the past two weeks and I'm still getting new subs. I feel like the lack of a forum for that site is definitely a strike against it when it comes to connecting with other creators, but maybe that's why the comment sections are way more populated...

I do understand your struggles! some of my friends tried to be on webtoon as well but webtoon keep promoting big webtoons that already have a million of subs or they are mostly taking already existant webtoons from the korean webtoon app and they say ''new on webtoon'' on the US app version... I'm not here to complain but they don't focus enough on webtoon canvas

I feel your pain as my growth on Webtoon has been pretty non existent, and I've no real idea how to promote it since they don't really have great community building tools.

From what I can gather from people who have done well there, the time of day you post updates on there is huge for gaining an audience. I've been told posting around (or just before) the featured comics update is a decent strategy time wise. But I can't say for certain as my personal experiences there have been not the best.

I do appreciate your comment! and yes the time of day to post/update is really important due to webtoon original pushing all away webtoon canvas when they do their update since they are promoted by the app itself... Webtoon Canvas is mostly for those who started to do comics. I've been hearing that a lot in other websites and by my friends/family ^^

Webtoon Canvas is definitely not just for creators first starting to do comics. I've been doing comics for six years now, and I know many creators on there who have been doing their comics that long or longer, but just never really reached their audience enough to become Featured. Only a handful of creators do become featured on there when you take into account just how many comics are on Webtoon. What Webtoon Canvas is, is a hosting site of content they're not paying for, while Featured comics are comics that they own to some degree because they are paying creators for them.

1.7K subs is actually pretty good, you know. Most likely you won't find audience even half of this on Tapas in a few years of posting. I don't think there's a way to gain a huge following unless you have a huge following somewhere else prior to publishing there. You can only continue drawing, promoting on social media and hope to appear on the front page again and again.
It has nothing to do with you being a beginner or anything, they promote a lot of different comics on front page, we firstly appeared there after a year of posting and barely having 350 subs.

Hey, I understand what you mean. I m updating my comic every two weeks since half an year on webtoon now and it feels like shouting into nomansland. However I realized, the best way to promote is to actually engage with others through the comment section.
Instagram and Twitter never really worked that good for me.

Hm, yes, I was talking about this some time ago. Webtoon leaves people totally in the dark. No nottification system, forums and engaging with other people is very hard. WebToon just doesn't care about small comics, so yeah.

Yes, I totally understand what you're saying!

I remember back when I was about to start my pubblication I used to read many threads where people would compare their Webtoon growth to Tapas and they would mostly praise webtoon.

People would usually say that their webtoons grew faster on webtoon than on Tapas and it was that way for me too... at first.
Now though, I'm stuck at 13 followers and something like 470 views and every new update almost seems non existent on Webtoon!

Tapas on the other hand, if I must say, has been a far better experience in my opinion. I like community building and I love interacting with other people who have the same passion as me.

So yeah, long story short I'm having a better time with Tapas  and I'm building nice relationships with other artists!

It's the complete opposite for me! While Tapas has stagnated, my Webtoons has been growing despite having a months-long hiatus!

My experience with Webtoons has been a pretty positive one overall, but I believe my experience is very different from most regular users. For one, Webtoons regularly featured my work (I think I'd been featured in some way several times on Webtoons, whereas Tapas I've only gotten a feature once).

Once I did have that growth though, one thing I did was reply and engage constantly! I asked a ton of questions in comments and asked readers what they thought of the day's update or who their favorite characters were. It built rapport and now I have a steady return of regular readers!

I also find that when you engage and comment constantly, shy readers are also more likely to comment!

Another thing I did was include bonus content every other update when I could. This helped explain my thoughts for an update, or talk about a featured character. It helps immerse the audience!

And one final thought: Promoting on social media should also include dropping links (within reason) to things like art share threads or joining communities on Discord to help improve your work! I found since joining these groups (outside of the platforms themselves), being able to get constructive, helpful crit helped my work take better shape!

Hopefully that helps? ^^

Wow! You've got one intelligent and creative webtoon there. The art is amazing, how it flows, showing the city and futuristic transportation. And the writing is great! Luv the character, even extra already! Yep, I subbed! Hope you enjoy my story.

Thank you so much for your feedback and the sub of course!
I had a look at your one shot as well and I have to say thee art is stunning. Which software do you use to draw these traditional black and white panels?

You're welcome! Thanks for checking it out.
The drawing tool I use is Paint Tool SAI. Then I had a hand at SketchUp--very new at it. So it was challenging doing some of the Arena scenes.
I use Adobe CC (Photoshop) adding dialog/narrative (fonts, bubbles, some paintbrushes).

I found out after I draw panels in SAI, I can convert it into Photoshop and do extra stuff like fonts, brushes, etc.

I would create a scene in Sketchup then export it into a 2D image (png or jpg) and put it in my Paint Tool SAI to draw over on another layer.

Everything works so great and seamlessly.

Last of all I have a Monitor Drawing Tablet (Artpro 15 X-Pen) that comes along with a digital pen. Makes drawing much more natural. I work from my laptop computer.

Yeah, I better stop writing books. Hope this was helpful.
