Webtoon or Tapas? Where your webcomic performs better?

Yeah, it's much easier to gain readers/traffic over on webtoons. I'm at 37k over there, meanwhile I have 18 here ^^;

I really like the community on tapas though, and the whole ability to make announcements etc and have more of a profile. Plus yeah, being able to block people is nice (tho I haven't needed the function on Tapas yet)

I feel like we've discussed this 1000 times already lol. Upload on both, you'll only know which one is better for you once you've been uploading for over a year.
Tapas was doing better for my comic in the first year then it was webtoon, i personally prefer webtoon bc my readers comment more (even back when tapas had more subs) and the monetization helped me a lot.

Tbh Tapas is only slightly better at creator interaction with readers, i like having a profile page but only people who read on the computer actually get your wall notifications. Most of your readers are on mobile they don't get those at all.

I get readers faster on Webtoons, but Tapas is still my favourite because of the creator's forum. Currently I have I think close or the same number of subscribers on both. The thing I've noticed though is that even if i don't upload for a while, I have more loyal readers on Tapas, the number bounces a lot less here than on Webtoons. I also find that the system is a lot more user friendly for creators. I never know when I have a comment or who my new subscriber is on Webtoons. I can interact with my subscribers on Tapas, which I like a lot.

Webtoons is where you get a lot of readers and comments but boi I dun like getting cringey/toxic side of comments though. Then again do get more motivated posting there first than Tapas.

Also keep in mind some people use DeviantArt or wherever else they already have a following on to advertise their comic initially. And once you do that it's easier for people to find on either Tapas or Webtoons because these websites generally will bring attention to the comics that are either already showing there's a demand for them, or that they feel have a high value potential if they do promote

For my comic, the stats that perform better in webtoon than tapas are views and subs. I get more comments, likes, fan arts, etc. here on tapas.

I get the same exposure on both platforms right now, tho I believe I get more unique commentators on Web, whereas I mostly get the regular readers on here. If I knew the view count of each page I'd have a better idea.

Not so much about views but I do prefer how my pages look on Tapas, mostly cause the higher size limit and the fact I can use PNG's. My pages look more pixelated and less vibrant on Web.

Currently webtoon has 3 ways you can potentially get money:

• Via ad rev (this is unlocked at 1k subs and 40k pageviews per month)
• Via "creator credit" program (must be approved for ad rev first. A tier based system)
• Potentially becoming a 'featured' creator.

They also have the option of connecting your patreon, which makes it easier for people to find it and support you there.

I do have 60k views now and only started posting one month ago, but i highly doubt i will make other 20k next month...seems hard, but thank you for the info!

Someone has mentioned to me that if for example you have 40k and get ad rev, but next month you don't reach the 40k mark - you don't lose your ad rev approval. So i'd head over to the Ad Rev tab next month and there should be a list of your series and it'll say if you're able to apply based off your previous month's stats I'd recommend doing this ASAP tho, because it can take a while to be approved.

I believe you need a patreon linked for this though, as that's the method of webtoon's payout.

As I mentioned in the other thread, mine performs better on Tapas. I think that the reason is that most of my subscribers are also creators on Tapas, and they had known about my work from conversations on the forum, or after meet me in the comments or after I subscribed to their work or during other kinds of interaction and communication. Webtoons give the less oportunities to interact with people, so I find it more difficult to make people aware and involved on Webtoons.
Also I have a clue that BL series can perform better on Tapas, because there are more fans of this genre here. At least, I've seen much less BL series (in % of overall) on Webtoons. In the other side, superhero series are more appreciated on Webtoons, so it could be the opposite for this genre.

Webtoons is a whole lot like Steemit, they give you a high % number of fake accounts following your comics and it's unreliable in term of analytics of how well or bad your comics is doing. Tapas feels more realistic / serious in this department.

On Steemit, i mean, Webtoon sorry, you feel good about the numbers, but terrible about engagement.

The very limited interface and functionnality to interact on Webtoon is made so you don't realise it too fast, but the truth is, this place is filled with bots owned by the company itself.

"Performing" is not the word there.

It's pretty much the same on both platforms for me. I have a subscriber count of around 25 on both sites. I get a few more views on webtoons, but it's a very small difference. It's kind of reassuring, in a weird way. It's so... consistent.

At Tapas and Webtoon, I'm an amateur so growing and becoming a content creator I can be proud of is hard. At Tapas, I have the tools set before me to become a better artist, but my audience here does not compare to what I had on Webtoon. To put this into perspective, This was a year ago, I couldn't even draw a hand even with a reference, I didn't have any spurts of any B- worthy work, my story had infinitely more plotholes than it does now. Get this, I didn't even have consistent character designs and yet the predecessor to my current series was much more popular. It seems this is a very common phenomenon, but it always leaves me with the question. Did I deserve those subs on webtoon? Does my current iteration lack some kind of charm from the original? What am I lacking (well the obvious answer is alot because it's the same for everyone).

Also this is the most accurate summarization of Webtoon comments as a whole. They're either so cheery and defensive about your work you get no valid criticism at all and when you offer criticism they're so grossly offensive even though they're not even the creator (I had to learn that the hard way) or their like extremely political, which is not only odd for a comic site, but just extremely unsettling.

Im not sure where you're getting this from, its different from comic to comic but i my reader engagement on webtoons is miles better than Tapas comparing back to when i had more subs on Tapas. People comment more and share their honest thoughts more. Whereas i feel like engagement isn't improving on Tapas bc im not getting new readers and i have a lot of ghost subs who might not use the app anymore since my comic has been on it since 2015.

This is why i say to just continue posting on both websites bc you're not losing anything and you never know which might be better for you in the long run.

This is common knowledge. There's a lot of threads talking about the fakery going on on Line, even here on these forums. and lot of authors that witnessed the very poor engagement they get, sometimes as less as 2 to 3% engagement, (and actually less than 1% on the supposedly most popular series ) botted views from the site itself, it's the same principle as a lot of other website doing the same unfortunately, there are serious studies showing internet traffic is for 75 to 80% driven by bots used by big companies to attract real people / users.

when i realised how fake their algorithm is i removed my comics from there. My guess is when you get featured you get even more of that algorithm and % of compensation in botted views and subs in proportion of real people actually subbing. That's just the industry for you. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

I Wish i could remove my comics from the fakery that is Steemit too, they use the same kind of methods, but it's blockchain based so, yeah, that's sad.

Edit : Maybe also because i already worked as a webmaster for a number of web service companies that are using these tools and server farms / bot farms to also trick their customers into thinking their solution works way better than it looks, it's all about faking numbers so you catch a number of real persons in the batch, but you usually sign nda while you work for these companies to not talk about it.
