Theses things are all important to me, obviously. A comic/movie/series is not bad without theses things, but they sure make me happy.
And I do read/watch things just because I heard that there are a lot of POC in it, or there is a gay couple, or there is a super queer character... But I don't like when these characters are there as a joke "Haha, it is so funny when a guy acts like a girl", or when they are too stereotyped.
It is really hard for me to naturally come up with a POC character, I have to tell myself "Today I am going to make a black/indian/japaneses/etc character", because if I just make the characters that comes naturally to me, I am going to have only white characters, unfortunately. Well... about the design, at least, I don't think it is really different to come up with personality os origin story for a character of a different skin color.
It is hard for me to come up with heterosexual characters. I ship same sex characters, so it is way easier for me to have bisexual/homosexual characters, or homoromantic / biromantic characters.
I am asexual and -maybe- homoromantic, so the concept of sexuality is really strange for me. I don't get why someone wouldn't like a person of the same or a different gender.
(EDIT: @dairyfiend , this is a topic that always comes to my mind, and I think it is interesting and important to talk about it in a place where there are so many people making new stories everyday. and I am happy to know that I am not the only one caring about it. )
A few Tapastic comics I know that have some of the things I said on the topic.
Pretty Mouth
I see Pretty Mouth as a fantasy / horror comic. And in the beginning of this comic, you have two guys having a "one night stand", Rizo and Evan. I guess Evan is bisexual, but I can't confirm it. They are the main characters of the story (with Ramona, I guess... She sound really important...)
Evan's friend and co-worker is character with dark skin, so... POC. I don't know her name D:
And an extra point, because there is a fat girl!
End.
I don't know how to sort this manga, it is about death and the judment of people that just died... So... Fantasy? The origin or sexuality of the characters were not confirmed in the comic, but as the author I can confirm:
Most of the characters are not heterosexual. I won't say everybody's sexuality, because I don't wanna make it long.
Fox and Hoya are an official couple. Fox being homo, and Hoya being gay.
Isis is homosexual.
Vincent is probably asexual. But probably not aromantic.
POC (until now):
Michael Solis (half korean), Scoth, Karen.
Isis is and isn't POC. She is a somewhat white brazillian, so I, as a brazillian, do not think of her as a POC character. But if you are not latin, Isis is a POC character.
Grey is... because dee Juusan said that Black is probably asexual, and there is a dark skinned character. Also, dee is from Jordan, and I think her characters are also from Jordan, that would make everybody there POC, right?
Strays I guess Meela is pretty queer, not a feminine girl... And there is a dark skinned character.
