Because r/comic r/webcomic and all the other others like them seem more geared toward episodic and easily repostable type stuff, and not, say, a comic that has an ongoing story and over 400 pages.

And if they aren't really any good subreddits, where are other good places to promote serialized comics, barring here?

There's r/LongformWebcomics, though like most comic posting places, it's pretty empty except for other comic creators.
The best place I know of to post is r/comics, but if you can't break your story down into short digestible chunks, you'll have a hard time there, too.

There are some Facebook-based comic creator pages, but again it's all other comic creators posting. Finding places where longform comic readers are is quite the snipe hunt!

I hope other people have some better locations.
