At the beginning of the 80s 1970's theatrical horror rocker Alice Cooper released a punk/new wave/cyberpunk concept album called Flush the Fashion
As you can imagine it went over like a wet fart in church with his spook-rock fanbase. I find the album better than claimed, and there are some pretty decent tracks. But he runs out of good material pretty quickly and the second half is... well, lame. The first side ends with a upbeat dystopian song about aspirin. Ooo! The scourge of arthritis pain relief! I guess singing about heroin was too close to home.
It's one of many cases of a 1970s rocker trying to adapt to the 1980s and not quite being able to get it right. It might be worth a listen for you.
