Do your couples experience conflict between each other, or only from outside sources? One of the biggest causes of conflict between my main couple in "Damsel in the Red Dress" is Kattar's extremely private nature. He loves Alicia to bits, but he has a tendency to keep the things that hurt or upset him to himself. However, these are still going to affect her, whether she knows about them or not, so it's important to balance patience as she learns to give him the time to open up, and he learns to actually open up.

Dominic is a very emotion-centered person. Essence's emotions are complicated and hard for everyone, including herself to understand because she doesn't display them like 'normal' people, and this makes all her social interactions difficult as most people can't tell what she's thinking or feeling and misread her. To be fair, she also misreads other people a lot and that doesn't help

Therese and Verner's biggest argument is about the running water. He insists it has nothing to do with their house and that the issue is from the water company, but she's always asking him if he's absolutely sure. did he call a plumber? (he IS a plumber.)

Sana and Tetsu's main conflict is how secretive Sana can be about when he's experiencing symptoms from his endocrine disorder. He often tries to hide light symptoms until they hopefully subside, but often they will just become worse. As his illness progresses in the story, his ability to manage himself gradually disappears. The two have to come to terms with this, and Sana is especially resistant to his every growing needs. There aren't any arguments, but Tetsu is increasingly distressed (and realizes he's depressed) about this worsening situation, especially because Sana won't tell him anything until he can't help but show he's not feeling well. Sana's unwillingness comes from being discriminated against for his illness in the past, both at school, at work, and in personal relationships.

This is so sad, but honestly, my male lead does much the same thing that Sana does. Kattar doesn't want his girlfriend to know all the things he's suffering from his injury, chronic pain, and he hates to feel like she feels sorry for him, so he prefers not to mention it, but that doesn't mean he's not still suffering, and it upsets her that he's hiding things from her

Here's an incompatibility that has nothing to do with communication but is definitely still going to cause a clash in book three.

Alicia takes WAY too long in the bath, and the two of them sleep at drastically different temperatures because she is always over-heating and he is always freezing.

They will spend the ENTIRETY of their life together with one of them either sweating or freezing to death if they get married

There was no argument, but this is a big sticking point for Essence and Dominic:

“What is your guiding line then?” he asks suddenly, looking up with a much mellower expression than he’s worn so far. “Everybody has to have something specific they’re looking for, right? Otherwise, we’d all just be married already…”

Maybe just peace?

Don’t say that. That would sound rude.

I rack my head and try to think back on all the things I used to wish for when I had the energy to wish at all. But those thoughts are distant and faint at this point.

Probably just girlish fantasies…

Still. He asked…

Here we go…

“I guess my ideal is just something even. Someone who will pull their own weight, and not expect me to do everything for them. Making sure I’m not overworked.”

That sounds heavy. Lighten it up somehow...

I am heavy.

I’m tired.

“Just…mutual care…I guess. A caring guy is all.”

I smell cigarettes, and the nausea rises up again. Mr. Giang is looking at me as if he’s expecting more. But when I don’t say anything else, he shoves his hands deep into his pockets, smiling uncomfortably.

“I mean, if that’s all, just get a roommate, or a golden retriever,” he laughs.
