What are your favorite things about your OCs' character designs? What was your favorite thing/nuance to design?

I like Claudita's char design for simplicity and functionality (except the long hair. Long hair gives you a disadvantage in a fight lol).

And I had a lot of fun with Akala's various outfits

I am currently working on this wip of my antagonist oc Whitaker, I will probably do full body refs next!
I think the most favorite thing for me is doing the research for trying to get characters to look the most accurate to what I see them in my mind is like? I want to capture them in a way that is true to their character, even if that is physically , like facial features or scars, imperfections ect!!! (and making the little scratchy lines, which tickle my brain in my art style)

Maybe because of my artstyle, my character's body shape or faces are malleable to some degree (especially my story's protagonist) They can look cartoonic or more realistic based on the scene's mood & tone.

I always want my characters (mostly story characters) to have a specific 'look' that others don't (like in real life), so to tackle same-face syndrome. Personally I couldn't tell who's who even if their hair colors or skin colors changed (even wearing different outfits). If they share same face features I'll get confused XD

And also, I had a lot of triangle elements in my character design. Subconsciously I must be liking

Mayme's heterochromia. I don't usually like it in characters, it's very "main character"-y but it's about the most evident thing in her design to portray her duo nature, and it's not as distracting given she's from a written art form so we don't have to look at it all the time. It's only really brought up to hammer home she isn't fully human, nor is she fully "leech". Her eyes are also used to show progression with the other main character's 'arc'. It's just a real good short hand for what side of her is being seen at any given moment, to mention what one of her eyes caught a character's attention.

For Ev, his down-turned nose and his eyes are tilted downwards on the outside (I always forget the name for it). To me it gives him an intoxicated unassuming look, especially with his calm but spontaneous and mischievous personality.
And he often does this look at you from the side thing with the smirk

down turned noses make me think of birds for some reason, though not in a bad way. I have quite a few characters with features that make me think of birds (and/or tengus) XD

The things people do for style, in this case making it harder to use your both hands 🤣 Lots of handkerchiefs got misplaced as a result, leaving em elsewhere to do tasks. If i rem some would stick in pocket and have the hanky dangle like a tail lol 🤣 and for carnival ppl used to jump up n spin em like helicopter lol

Same makes me think of birds too
Well Ev has a saying "just be bird about it" meaning "keep flying like a bird and leave your troubles behind" so you might be onto something additional regarding birds 🤣 I think they call it Hawk Nose but not sure if thats for that one with the ridge + downturned.
If i rem Tengus were mischevious too so this fella already have the mischief part down 🤣

I really enjoy how much Hailey and Hannah compliment each other in their design. They share a lot of common traits being sisters, but the subtle little differences make a big difference.

Setsune's design is an inversion of Ursa's design, Because they're the same character transformed. The red stripes in Ursa's design are meant to resemble the cloth in Ursa's design. The yukata being mostly white is supposed to contrast Ursa's black. Setsune's more soft hair is meant to contrast Ursa's sharper hair and so on.

Mavis’s red ribbon! I think it adds a nice contrast to the cooler colors, and I made the shape of the loops sticking up and a bit “sharp” to very loosely symbolize devil horns. Queer religious guilt is a huge part of this character’s arc so I thought it’d be cool to have some visual nod to that

i never thought i'd come up with ways to enhance his expressions because he wears a mask, but i have so much fun making him.

For Lolly, it's her flower. Just the contradiction of a dead death having a flower over her ears just

For Emerald, it's her bird autism. It always is nice to have an excuse to draw birds, or come up with bird accessories to have around her house

For Isham, it's her broken nose. It takes away one of the weaknesses of being a vampire (garlic repels them because of the stink and they have really good sense of smell) just by giving her a bigger "weakness"

For Kno, it's either her feathers, because you don't really see many women with "body hair", or her mutinous because it really does become a very interesting challenge to get across what she's trying to "say" with just facial features and body language. Also making her illiterate so I can't use her writing things down as a crutch

Esen-Ali, her cleft left arm. It just looks cool and certainly does give her a distinct silhouette, even discarding her sash and hair
