Hey, that's awesome you're finishing your masters! I deferred my phd to start in fall 2021 so we may be starting together! (I study Chemistry, pretty similar fields)
One on my goals is a collective goal between my friend group and I. We're remarking this game in Python called Journey to the center of Hawkthrone (you may know it if you watch community) with all of us as the game characters. We're outlining it right now but it'd be cool to have a game I made with friends!
Another goal would be to start biking again
I actually started working on my “New Years resolutions” back in September so that the new lifestyle changes wouldn’t be so jarring and difficult to keep up when 2021 rolls around. That list includes:
Take at least one 1 hour walk/run everyday.
Wake up at 6am.
Ink at least 12 pages a week (on deadline for a project)
Use the internet for less than 3 hours a day (not including a nightly movie with my husband while we eat dinner).
I want to add practicing French and my instruments on a regular basis but currently I have very very little free time since I’m balancing so many projects at once that are more in line with my more immediate work goals.
In 2021, I should have at least 4 graphic novels done and ready for print. (One is done with the exception of some edits, the second is 140+ pages in so very nearly done and the rest are early in the process!)
I’m really hoping to pitch to more publishers this upcoming year and get out of my comfort zone and expand my reach a little. I would say my goal is to have a second publisher in 2021 but I don’t really like measuring goals by things I can’t control or predict so I’m gonna say my goal is to try to reach out to everyone on my list.
This is me sending good vibes to make sure everyone's goals become reality.
I'm just going to type these into existence here to give myself motivation:
Get through the 3rd arc of my comic
Continue to promote my comic, reach 500+ subscribers on Tapas
Try to sketch more frequently and play with traditional mediums
Participate in some kind of art challenge
Exercise regularly and learn to cook more healthy meals
Stay in touch with my friends/family, communicate better
Continue to enjoy my job, get a raise
Learn to do the splits
I want to pull out of my writing hiatus and at least finish the first part of my story.
I want to try a year sober and work on just living a healthier lifestyle in general. I’m hoping to get rid of my chronic anxiety - something alcohol doesn’t help.
I want to finally backpack Mount Whitney because our past two permits have been canceled due to fires.
I want to start drawing more and pick up my comics again. Or even create a small “starter” comic to get some experience-building going.
I hope I can move a bit further from where I’m living now, get a house, and maybe even get a new job in the field I got my degree for (I’ve found some jobs recently that caught my eye).
I hope I can finally get a dog - meaning I’ll finally have a yard.
And I hope I can snowboard all season loooong.
DEFINITELY get a decent raise at my day job.
Pay off this final piece of debt so that it can stop haunting me.
Try to get back to exercising again.
Get back to working on my comic; just tired of my body [and/or my mind] feeling shitty to where I cant work on my stuff like I want to.
GET MORE SLEEP/REST. This is one of my biggest issues...
Finally create my website AND a store. I get tired of the holidays rolling around year after year & I have stuff that I want to sell but I have no site or store that I can sell at.
@Maps These are incredible goals and I wish you all the best with your goal with sobriety — I believe you can do it. And YES, do start creating comics again. I'm sure everyone here on Tapas would love to read your work
@Shanny8 Great goals!! I feel you on the student debt stuff. I'm going to have to start paying off my student loans in January And YESSSS SLEEEEP
This is neat.
My goals for 2021.
I want to reach 10 "episodes" in my series.
I want to cook more. I lost a lot of love for cooking/food with my food allergies and I want to find a happy medium again with myself and what I eat.
I want to keep studying languages. I want to learn more French and Romanian.
I want to be more body positive and accepting of myself.
Have a "big" adventure. (Type of adventure TBD)
As usual I'll put a ton of pressure on myself, for next year's goals, because that's how I thrive. I do realize that they may be unrealistic, but I'mma still shoot for it anyways
•Double my page output for Dragon Sparking
•Hit trending in Action genre for Dragon Sparking
•Get better at backgrounds and mechanical art
•Finish the storyboard for the collaboration comic I'm doing, get two full chapters drawn and colored.
@cherrystark Same with the "big" adventure — hopefully this pandemic gets better so that we can all have one! And YES to self love + body positivity. It's something I've worked on over the years, and want to continue working on as well !!!
@nathanKmcwilliams You can totally accomplish these goals for your comic! I'm also someone who puts a lot of pressure on myself. I try to remind myself of all that I've accomplished and its helped a ton
It's not student debt- I paid THAT off in 2019 and it felt SOOOO good; I paid too much, so they sent me check back for the difference!
This debt is one that occurred because I was paying in so much money on my student loans. I started paying off all of my debts in 2018...this is the last one on the list. I had money to pay towards it earlier this year, but then my old vehicle died & I didnt want to risk getting Covid riding on public transportation, so I got a "newer-ish" vehicle. The new vehicle is great, but at times I wished I would've been able to have paid off the debt.
Ah, let's see
- Do well in my game design internship and find a full-time position.
- Complete manuscript for my second Tapas story.
- Travel to Osaka and Kyoto (when we're allowed to travel again)
- Practice Japanese speaking with a native speaker twice a week.(I can only read and write
)
- Oh, and move out of my parent's house. That would be really nice
