What comics and comic creators do you look up to?

Are there any comics that you're looking up to as benchmarks of what you should be striving for?
There are a couple of my personal favorites that I revisit constantly to check how they did this or that element of the comic (the chapter covers, or panel layouts, for instance), and compare mine to theirs.

I absolutely adore Mike Deodato Jr's work, specially on Dark Avengers. He's my biggest inspiration, but I'm not even at a level I can copy him. The dude is something else.

• I really, really love Sigeel's work, particularly her art for Punderworld. It's absolutely beautiful, and her characters are so expressive!

• I don't know her name off the top of my head, but the artist for The Witch And The Beast is excellent.

• Nikbi (Creator of Winds of Spring)

• Maiyu (Creator of Oasis)

• And the artist for Raven Saga on WEBTOON as well. Totally different style, but so cute.

i feel like I've fell behind on reading most of my webcomics and books! (I really need to catch up with some, like Kill 6 Billion Demons or whatever it was called, before I can say if I still like them) But the ones I'm currently following pretty closely are:

Love Jess Heron's Midnight furies (like seriously my favorite scroll comic, it's done so well--and it's a sports comic! Which feels rare on webcomics right now)

Tracy Butler's Lackadaisy was hugely inspiring for me, although I do not envy how much work she has to do each update, haha. Especially now she's making an animated short and that's taking a ton of time (although I'm super excited whenever I see updates for that. It looks really good) Also, because she's updates so rarely, it's easy for me to keep up to date!

Mochamura who does "the Dummy's Dummy" GORGEOUS stuff.

I really love the work done by Dave Raposa (He does a bunch of covers for DC, and does "Steve Lichman" with a writer which is partially available online.)

Shaun Tan!!!

I read The Arrival ... and just fell in love.
it's rather a graphic novel.. and up to then, I didn't know that sequential art could be like that

it's completely silent. there's no exposition, no dialoge, no narration. not a single word.

(that's something I am trying with a short story myself.. that I hope to get physically published, knock on wood.)

part of the reason for it, is because the character immigrates to a different country to support his family back home where a weird creature has invaded and eventually have enough funds to get them there as well.
but he doesn't know the local language or culture or even the foods.
so everything feels to the reader just as unintelligable as it does to him.

anyways if you can get this at a local library, check it out.

I'm pretty tall so I don't look up to that many of them when I meet them...unless I'm sitting down. But then I stand up, ''cause it's rude to not stand up when greeting a new acquaintance.

Jean Giraud is my hero and will always have an enormous influence on me and my work. Hergé and Tove Jansson are also two amazing creators. Don Rosa will have a sweet spot in my heart since his Uncle Scrooge comics had such amazing details.
