I guess sometimes romance can get in the way of the plot and people will start to care about the romance more than the actual story? Specifically shippers? Now do I think shipping is bad? No. (Unless you're one of those people who ship the hero with his relatives or the main antagonist that caused him psychological harm. Or if you're a grown adult and you ship minors. OH SNAP. SPEAKING OF WHICH!).
I'm also not a fan of High School/Elementary romance. It just annoys me that out there, there's some adult gushing over a minor's relationship and drawing lewd fan art. Like Loud House. Or My Hero Academia. Or Luca. People may call me a hypocrite since my comic revolves around harems and all that, but you can definitely feel my cynical attitude towards young relationships if you read the story. I've taken so many jabs at the harem genre and what Naota represents that I'm surprised the referee hasn't stopped me yet. Even then (and this is a bit of a spoiler), the person Naota marries is the biggest punchline in the entire comic. Off-topic, I'm thankful that my readers are more interested in the friends he makes than the girls he sleazes on.
I'm obviously not going to explore relationships below 18 ever again. I might hint at a character's sexual orientation or whatever, but even then it'll either be small/subtle. And this is also for straight characters too btw. And it's not to say that I hate romance stories. I like some of them. I'm just more straightforward. I care about the character's goals or priorities more. Or the bigger picture. Romance is more of a tool for me. That said, if my story requires a romance plot revolving around characters above 18, I'll actually try to make it heartwarming.
Also this is off-topic, but I guess I'm more interested in reality romance. Like the crazy shenanigans couples get into in 90 Day Fiance or whatever :v
