What do you look for in a comic?

Whether it's gag, manga, slice-of-life, drama, etc, what pulls you into a comic and keeps your interest? Is it the art? The story? (if it has one). The jokes/humor? And what kind of artwork, story, and humor do you like? What trait of a comic gets you hooked and keeps you there?

Art is defiantly a big part of it for me. I defiantly find myself giving comics with good distinctive art more time to grab me than comics with poor art or art that's just generic looking. That said, if the art is good but the story isn't interesting, I'll still abandon it.

Sounds cliche, but definitely a combo of art and writing/story. Art is what grabs me first, though. I can't find appeal in the art, unfortunately, I probably won't read much of the story. But even if the art does have that appeal, it will lose me if isn't worth reading.

I'd say the art grabs my attention initially but if the story doesn't grab me as much I sometimes tend to fall off, although I do try to stick with them as long as possible because some stories can be a real slow burner and get better, and better throughout in later pages. The ideal world is both complementing each other.

I think the story matters alot in a comic. I mean yeah art is important but if the story isn't good then no one would buy or read the next volume. Everyone judges a book by its cover ( I do too) and then I read the backside of it to see whats it about If I like it I take it, if I don't ... I don't

Art is important too at some point as well I guess. no one wants to read wiggly lines right?
but then again why do you think Cyanide and Happiness is so popular? its because of the story line

But well thats my opinion on things
btw make sure it has a catchphrase that is appealing to readers or sth

Artwise, I like comics that look manga-ish, but not exactly... Either colour or grayscale is fine. Storywise, I like things that go from high fantasy to slice-of-life. I also like short strip gag type of thing, specially if they are cute/funny

I look for an original art style and funny writing. Strong characters help too.
