What helps me is finding my limits. I cannot study more than ninety minutes, and I need a sixty to ninety minutes break after that. So I ignore all the worldly troubles and stick to those 90 minutes only.
The key is to be lenient with yourself but stick to your task when you've set the time.
When I do that, I can amount to a total of nearly 8-10 hours of intense focus in a day.
But that is of course when I'm strict. When procrastination kicks in, it's really annoying and unproductive. The only way out of this, I find, is self discipline and being pragmatic.
