So, I don't know if is a common trope or something like that, but in my webcomic, I'm going to do a Time Jump between each season. I know Naruto is one of those animes that did it, and Dragon Ball did it too, but, I think the difference here, is to see kid characters (not main characters) growing up and being slowly set up in their own journeys.
What I mean about this difference is... Let's imagine this:
Naruto starts as a protagonist, but instead Boruto taking his role, it would be Konohamaru, something like that.
I want to know if this is an interesting concept:
Secondary characters being set up to take the main role in future stories, of course, it should be interesting characters and all those stuff, but at least the readers wouldn't feel so distant about the character, right?
Because, it is a character you already see before interacting with the protagonist and there is a high chance to see the protagonist being involved in this character story at some point, maybe as a co-star or secondary character.
What do you think about this concept?
Do you use it in your story too?
