I'm planning my comic, and I realized that I'm not all that attracted to busy looking pages, I find them hard to follow and look at, I often miss small frames and can't interpret what they're trying to show (this does vary with different comics though, if execution is good, i won't be turned off by it just because of its layout). When I try doing them myself, I have a hard time thumbnailing and going through with them.
Although I did intend to one day have my story in physical print, if I want to post it on the internet, I think I should customize it for the platform, and often, traditional looking pages are difficult for me to read and do. My ultimate dream would be to have my story done as an animation, so I thought it'd be fun if I presented it as a series of screenshots, as if taken straight from an anime/tv show, with subtitles and small character icons to indicate who's talking. It's easier for me to draw and storytell with full on illustrations rather than a series of small ones.
I haven't seen this done before, so idk if it has any merit, or if it would be effective at all. Comics similar to this idea might be vel's countdown to countdown, and WLOP's ghostblade which are told through a series of full color illustrations with speech bubbles. The only difference between theirs and my idea are subtitle placement and the illustrations' size ratio (and I'd try to make my style look at least somewhat polished anime/cartoonish). If I wanted to simulate a pan shot, I'd probably ditch the ratio and do the full pan. I'd probably update a scene at a time, splitting it up if too long.
I know this sounds labor intensive and time consuming, but it'd honestly be easier for me than doing pages (plus vel and wlop do it, and fantastically at that, so who's to say I can't either).
What do you think of this idea? Have you seen others do it before? Pls link me to anyone who has, or anything similar, I'm curious.
