Welp no matter how the voting system works, It's just unfair how everyone has to choose this or that or the other thing. And this whole "blue vs reds" makes it so extreme, like can't they compromise? Like this there will always be many, many people that will be disappointed, angry or sad. And because this Trump vs Hillary almost tied, basically half of the country is unhappy... That's kind of shocking. If only everyone could be happy...

Again, I agree it's not perfect, but it's the best system human civilisation has ever devised, and the alternative is multitudes of degrees worse. There may be other, not yet tested methods of organising civilisation, but those remain theoretical. Try not to think of it as half the population are unhappy. Yes, that half is unhappy at the moment, but in 4 years, or 8, or whenever, they could be happy again, the population that's happy now would then be unhappy again. The left-right dichotomy is a natural manifestation of a free, voting society. They check and balance each other, swinging from one side to the other as the political climate demands. If a society goes full left or full right you end up with tyranny. We're talking mass oppression, dictatorships, human suffering on a monumental scale. The liberty we enjoy in the west rests on a knife edge. The left and right need each other to ensure that liberty prevails.

Trump had more electoral votes while Clinton had the popular vote (She had more votes).

And why can you only choose out of two people to become president in the first place?

Actually it starts with quite a few people before it goes down to the most popular candidates who win their party's nomination.
There's also other candidates 3rd party/Independent.

Why can you only be president for 8 years?

That's if you get re elected like Obama. Your really only facing 4 years in power..

And why can only people with TONS of money become president?

That's actually a really important question I've been wondering?

I have no idea how much a president really CAN do, but I think it takes more than one man to end the world.

Law wise I think it has to pass through congress and since republicans who likely support Trump took control of both the House and Senate his laws are most likely going to pass..

Nuke wise. Trump can, he will be met by opposition but ultimately it's his decision.. scary isn't it?

I'm shocked and scarred! There is so much hate, anger and fear tied to Trump’s campaign. Many of the tactics (anger, fear, hate) Trump used to "win" the election was similar to the tactics Hitler used. I am a woman and have a girlfriend and live in a red state. My girlfriend has been out of work for 3 months due to discrimination she's faced from coworkers and a manager, and getting everything sorted out has been a nightmare! As a member of the LGBTQ community I'm scarred what will happen to my rights! When my girlfriend, myself, and another gay friend went to early voting, one of the ladies running it was very mean and disrespectful to us after she realized we were gay and voting Dem/Libral.

Today I told a Rep. friend that I was scarred what would happen to my rights, and he replied that I shouldn’t worry since Trump is neutral about LGBTQ. I told him that even if Trump is neutral his vice president, Pence, is anything but! He didn’t reply, and I think it’s because he doesn’t know of Pence’s malicious opinion and approach towards LGBTQ. I then said I was frustrated that the election was decided by the electoral vote, not the popular vote, since Hillary won the popular vote. He then replied that it didn't really matter if Hillary won the popular vote , since it was just a “few” votes more. Then, this hypocrite turns around and says that Mitt R. should have won the last election, because he won the popular vote. I told him that I was pretty sure that wasn’t true, as I read an article earlier that day stating that Gore vs. Bush was the last time the popular vote (Gore) didn’t win the electoral (Bush). He didn’t believe me. When, I got home I doubled checked, and I was right!

It's so frustrating! So many of the people here (Red state) only watch one news source (Fox News) That's the ONLY source of info they use! It's so sad; so many people choose to feed themselves a narrow stream of info, and that stream is often full of rumors and false information. As an American, I strive to educate myself, and not stop at the easy, quick or most comfortable answers. To vote is not just a right, it's a responsibility to educate oneself, and that means looking at a variety of news sources. If you do not educate yourself, DO NOT VOTE! Because so many uneducated, and arguably brainwashed, people voted, we now have a rude, racist, egotistical, arrogant, misogynistic bully lined up to lead our country. I cried when he won. I feel like my heart is broken....

However, I hope… I hope that Trump will serve our country right. I hope his lack of propriety, was a publicity stunt and not how he will actually behave once in the office. I hope he realizes that the world is not black and white, and that we live in an world that is complex and interwoven. I hope he will make choices that help the people, and that means ALL the people. I hope he picks a smart cabinet that can sit him down and teach him how politics, and the political world, actually works. I hope he will make choices that help all American’s thrive financially, not just the 1% (which includes himself) I hope…. he will be decent.

I feel sorry for the LGBTQ and basically anything outside of the white male demographic for the results of this election. At this rate I'm not so worried about Trump himself as much as the effect he and his campaign has had on the people and how racism and discrimination has, in effect, become legitimized because now there is a racist and discriminating president.

As a white, straight male: I'm sorry. I wish that more of us were open-minded and you know... not racist and discriminating pricks.

I dunno, I think I may be in a state of denial however it is fully possible that Trump might get overwhelmed by being president and just end up sitting on his hands. So what is going to happen when his hardcore supporters who were expecting radical changes don't get what they want? What if the "wall" is only part of a wall or never happens. What if the extremist Christian groups slowly realize that they voted for someone who is not Christian. Or this so called "outsider" is just as corrupt as anyone in the establishment.

I just feel like the next few years are going to be a mess. And living in the Metro DC area doesn't help. D:

On another note, I wonder if the NYC Trump tower will not be closed off to the public. A year and a half ago, my sisters and I walked through the lobby but I feel now they might not let people do that anymore. A small coffee in the cafe was $8....jeez.

I wonder about this too. Trumps promises are very far fetched and many are nearly impossible to turn into reality. I understand that someone who is out of a job, because their factory moved to China would support him who promises to bring back the jobs. But the reality of it all is, it is just not quite that simple. And Trump DOES know that.

Not sure his supporters will keep him accountable though. The blame of failure can easily pushed elsewhere, like the senate or whoever else is available.

I can guarantee that some of them won't. I've seen this happen in my own country: the die-hard followers of a populist leader are capable of literally shoot themselves in the foot and blame the pain bleeding on whatever scapegoat is thrown at them.

Yet the Mexican President released a statement that he wanted to work with Donald Trump. He's definitely opening most of the doors that have been closed during the Obama administration (I like Obama and think he did a fantastic job, but America needs an outsider.)

I can't stand people's reaction to him. Everyone against him act like they're innocent even though they're responsible for all of this. People are legitimately confused how this happened. It's not rocket science, America doesn't have the morale it had 70 years ago. We don't know what's going on anymore, we don't have the nationalistic pride like in the past when there was reason for it. Our country has done shady things for years leading to the crumbling of our societies trust. From Vietnam to Iraq we just have no clue what the hell to do anymore or what's going on. People trying to say all trump supporters are white straight male fascists is laughable when so many weren't. Yes both the left and right is responsible for it, no one's innocent. Protesting trump's presidency isn's gonna make a difference, it makes you look stupid because you can't change an election. Start protesting when your rights as an American gets challenged. Pointing fingers and blaming others isn't gonna solve anything. Everyone's at fault.
