I dunno, I think I may be in a state of denial however it is fully possible that Trump might get overwhelmed by being president and just end up sitting on his hands. So what is going to happen when his hardcore supporters who were expecting radical changes don't get what they want? What if the "wall" is only part of a wall or never happens. What if the extremist Christian groups slowly realize that they voted for someone who is not Christian. Or this so called "outsider" is just as corrupt as anyone in the establishment.

I just feel like the next few years are going to be a mess. And living in the Metro DC area doesn't help. D:

On another note, I wonder if the NYC Trump tower will not be closed off to the public. A year and a half ago, my sisters and I walked through the lobby but I feel now they might not let people do that anymore. A small coffee in the cafe was $8....jeez.

I wonder about this too. Trumps promises are very far fetched and many are nearly impossible to turn into reality. I understand that someone who is out of a job, because their factory moved to China would support him who promises to bring back the jobs. But the reality of it all is, it is just not quite that simple. And Trump DOES know that.

Not sure his supporters will keep him accountable though. The blame of failure can easily pushed elsewhere, like the senate or whoever else is available.

I think that one has little to do with capability, but issues like Mexico won't pay for it and neither will America, among other things.

I can guarantee that some of them won't. I've seen this happen in my own country: the die-hard followers of a populist leader are capable of literally shoot themselves in the foot and blame the pain bleeding on whatever scapegoat is thrown at them.
The true question is how many are like that.

Yet the Mexican President released a statement that he wanted to work with Donald Trump. He's definitely opening most of the doors that have been closed during the Obama administration (I like Obama and think he did a fantastic job, but America needs an outsider.)

Well, wanting to work with Trump doesn't necessarily mean a wall's happening. But again, I don't know anything for certain at this point.

I can't stand people's reaction to him. Everyone against him act like they're innocent even though they're responsible for all of this. People are legitimately confused how this happened. It's not rocket science, America doesn't have the morale it had 70 years ago. We don't know what's going on anymore, we don't have the nationalistic pride like in the past when there was reason for it. Our country has done shady things for years leading to the crumbling of our societies trust. From Vietnam to Iraq we just have no clue what the hell to do anymore or what's going on. People trying to say all trump supporters are white straight male fascists is laughable when so many weren't. Yes both the left and right is responsible for it, no one's innocent. Protesting trump's presidency isn's gonna make a difference, it makes you look stupid because you can't change an election. Start protesting when your rights as an American gets challenged. Pointing fingers and blaming others isn't gonna solve anything. Everyone's at fault.

There are extreme ideologues on both sides. I originally thought of saying perhaps it would be better if the forums avoided talking politics, since people (on both sides) sometimes get triggered pretty easily. But I've always found this to be a very civil place (considering this is the internet). I think if real discussions are held, without resorting to hurling insults or character assassination, and people are genuinely reflective on their own beliefs, it might make for a really good environment for story tellers to grow. Much of our stories are influenced by our lives and beliefs, and coming into conflict with others can be a chance to either stay insular or grow.

That doesn't make sense though, it sets up a scenario where the tyranny of the majority is way worse; basically, because I'm a democrat in Idaho, my vote was completely thrown out, whereas with a true democracy, every vote would be worth the same amount. The way it is now, your vote has more potency per person if you are in a rural area, which doesn't make any sense especially because (as someone from a rural area) our public schools are terrible and our populations are crazy uneducated, we should -not- have more power to get an electoral vote as an individual in a city.

To be fair, anytime the majority of people vote for a candidate and they still lose, it is disorienting and upsetting. It's only happened twice in the past century, it's quite rare. And certain citizen's rights -are- being threatened; he said on the campaign trail that he'd remove Obamacare, which many people now rely on, he's threatening to deport Mexican Americans and it is important to note that his election is directly correlated to a spike in hate crimes and suicides in the U.S. so...I think peaceful protests actually make a lot of sense right now.

It's a solid argument, and it's definitely one worth having. I still think the electoral college is fairer than a nationwide popular vote. Remember, each district is a first past the post popular vote. A system with numbered preferences is better and encourages more parties to part.

Right now though no one's rights have been threatened by congress as of yet, it hasn't happened. And a good majority of people did vote for trump which is surprising in of itself. The election happened, and I think these people want them to change the election. Like that's a viable option. Right now protesting isn't gonna solve anything because there's no real basis behind it. It's just people upset and trying to change what already happened.
