So I didnt seem to find anything on this topic, in the answered or looking around (i could also be blind - sorry if i am then @A@),

but out of curiosity what fonts do you guys use? Are they free for commercial use?
What font did you use for your own title/logo? Did you make your own font? title/logo font?

I'm mainly using the Anime Ace Font Family but I'm thinking about maybe changing it.

Hmm... If you want to change your font for the speech bubbles, I mainly use DigitalStrip. You can find it on Blambot and dafont.com.

As for the title/logo, I would say you can use an existing font (that fits well with the type of story you're sharing), or create your own. But that's just my opinion. smile

I use Yadayadayada which isn't free and Chinacat for other works. And for the logo I usually design them myself from scratch ^^b~

I letter most of my comics using klepon scone41 - it's what I use for both Grassblades20 and all the oneshots I do.

It's actually fairly close to my handwriting on my best and neatest days - but most days I write in chicken-scratch so messy even I have a hard time reading it, so using a font works out better for me in the end.

Grassblades' title is lettered using a combination of a Wakfu-font21 (with some edits and tweaks) and my own hand-drawn letters.

I am trying to hand-letter all of my sound-effects, on the few occasions when I use them - it's good practise!

I use sequentialist for my dialogue. I highly suggest checking out websites like blmabot.com which specialize in dialogue fonts for webcomics and offer a lot of them for free! For a long time I used their digital strip 2.0 and simply made the spacing between smaller.

For logos, I actually do a lot of my own graphic design for that and purchase my fonts at creativemarket.com and mightydeals.com. While websites like dafont.com are good launching points, they do not give you the licensing for your fonts and also purchased fonts often come with extra bells and whistles like embellishments and nice italics that make buying them at low costs (>$10 per font) quite worth it!

Here's an example of some logos I have created!

The main font I use on my comic17 and it's Laffayet Comic Pro, since it's free for personal and commercial use if I ever want to print one of my works. Once in a while I also use my own handwriting.

I use SF Wonder Comic and its types for OCCULTIS6 and pretty much every other comic I've done in the past year or two. It's great and available from the creators, ShyFoundry3. $20 for a commercial license is very good for such a high-quality font.

Other than that, I use mainly incidental fonts for things like monster growls and so forth, but it's mostly the SF Wonder Comic family.

I use a boatload of fonts- some commercial use(I paid for them) & some free.

The main dialogue/word balloon font that I'm using for my upcoming Ray Thunder comic is called Meanwhile from Comicraft. Comicraft tends to be a LITTLE MORE(translation: LOT more) expensive than Blambot- but they have a sale every Jan 1st, in which they sell ALL of their fonts for a price that matches the year(for example this year was 2016, so they sold their fonts for $20.16 each). Good if there's one particular font that you want from them REALLY bad or if you load up on about 3 or 4.

My title logo for my webcomic is a combination of 2 fonts. The top one is called Kill Switch, from Comicraft...the bottom one is called Susurrus, from Blambot. I used those 2 because I wanted my webcomic logo to have a balance between looking like an atypical comic book, and something more...

Here are my for-commercial-use fonts. I was once given the advice to find some fonts I love and use all the time, pay for them and never have to worry about copyrights if I happened to monetize my comics. And I found it good advice. Besides, font makers deserve to get paid for their work just as much as artists do.

The first is my text bubble font from Blambot for about 20$. I originally used the free-for-personal-use Anime Ace and this is the closest I could find. I've grown so used to it I find it bizarre when text bubbles use some other font.

The second is an old script font I just fell in love with and had to have for covers and stuff. I got it off MyFonts for about 25$

The third I haven't used much but plan to put it on future covers/comics and stuff and got it on sale for 15$ on MyFonts as well.

The fourth I haven't bought and is no longer available but I liked it and I emailed the designer looking to buy it but he gave me permission to use it for free, teehee~

The last one was the cheapest, just 5$, but is really cute!

Body text - Humana Sans for Demon House and Heavy Horns.
I had it free on my old mac. But when that crapped out the font didn't come with my new one. So I had to go out and actually buy it. =T

For Erie Waters I use Tekton Pro, it came with my mac.

Title -
modified Excellens for Demon House - free from MyFonts.com
Friz Quadrata for Heavy Horns - came with my mac
My own handwriting for Erie Waters

The title/logo for Shanties is HVD Bodedo. Subtitles and most non-dialogue lettering for the comic is done in UglyQua4. I'm quite fond of both of these. C: Also! FontSquirrel2 is a great site that compiles a ton of fonts that are free for commercial use. ((To varying degrees, of course. Conveniently though, their license stipulations are listed right on the font's page so you can investigate before downloading!))

Dialogue is done in DigitalScript 2.0 BB2, though I sometimes hand-letter bits of speech as well as sound effects, etc.

There's so many nice fonts listed here already! O: Definitely gonna have to add some of 'em to my collection!

@AnnaLandin yeah! I've been doing sound effects with my own handwriting. Its seems more natural that way to me haha.
I totally understand the not being able to read your own handwriting tho hehe.

@Tanisha Ohhhh, cool! Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of making logos from scratch but I dont feel comfortable without any kinda vector designing program XD Too much of a wimp to use free form paint programs too lolol. Your model student logo is suuuper cute tho!

@JigokuNeko Ohhhhh yeah, I'll take that advice. I'm glad I made it a point of asking too! And yeah, thats why im thinking of switching off anime ace since its only free for personal use, and if I do get into purchasing rights for a font I want it to be really good and something I can choose between others. Nice on the forth font tho haha ^u^ ! And I do agree the last one if cute, I hope I'll need a cute font in the future as an excuse to get some XD Ty for your comment!

@timinabox24 Ahhhh! Thats super neat! I dont have much confident in making my own fonts so hella kudos to you for that!

@joannekwan Ohh, so does that mean if your computer comes with the font you dont have to buy them anymore? Sucks that you ended up having to when you originally already had them @m@ Also checking out the fonts in your comics and lemme say your art is so pretty! Thanks for sharing!

@graceroche Fontsquirrel! Got it! I like the sound of that place >:3 ! I like to hand letter sound effects to hehe, I think its much easier than trying to get a font to work my way with the sound/composition of a picture. Hehe ty for sharing! And ikr! So many fonts to choose from!

@misterloki hhhh neat! Thanks for sharing your example! Super pro O:< !!! Figuring out a logo over my main text will be a different story but hopefully I'll find a font to inspire me for that! I see the blmabot being suggested a few times so I'll be sure to check that out too :3 ty!

@purrlpankras ahhh pretty art! I've seen corbel around before and I think I have that on my com! I should look into having differnt types of fonts for differnt situations too :3 ty for sharing

@taissztrum I like the look of that one alot! Its similar to what I have now! I'll take a look further with it, ty muchly!

@aFistFull Ohhh I like them! Clean and def my kinda appeal in fonts. thanks for sharing~

@hushicho Ahhh, I may not have look hard enough but I cant seem to figure out what incidental fonts are? If you dont mind me asking what that is @v@ I like that font that you use tho, I'll take a look more into it cuz ur totes right!

@Shanny8 Oh thanks or the headsup! I like having more places to look into and sales are a def help to know of. I appreciate the examples too! I never even thought about combining fonts to make a logo, neat O:< !!!

Thank you! Yes, since you paid for the computer and its OS you are entitled to the fonts as you would had you bought them separately. Of course you can go into each font's individual user license agreement to check in your computer's library, but it should be fine. You can read a little more about it here.

ahhhh thank you!!! I didnt know anything about all this! Super cool! I'll jump right into that link >:3 ~

Thank you! I didn't use a vector program of any sort. Just good old Clipstudio paint ex and its calligraphy brush! ^^ if anything though, I would have hired someone to design the logo for me. I think Blambot has a service for that but that's only if you're willing to invest on one ^^b~
