I cooked a traditional, silesian, christmas dinner for my family.
Silesia used to be a part of Germany and thatĀ“s where my mother is from.
The recipe sounds weird but itĀ“s super delicious
Homemade Sauerkraut, I made this end of 2023 and had it in the basement for over
13 month. Homemade is the best
Potatoes
nothing unusual so far
You cut a breakfast cake (special kind of simple german sweet cake) into small pieces and pour
sweet malt beer (no alcohol, delicious drink) over it, some water and then you put it in the basement
and let it soak in
Then you put the following ingredients into the pot and let it simmer at a low heat for 2 hours
bacon & sausages
some weird ass vegetables I donĀ“t know the name of and a carrot
some pepper, a bit of garlic and a bouillion cube
simmer, simmer
then you put syrup in it, I donĀ“t know if "beet syrup" is the correct translation.
ItĀ“s black, itĀ“s sweet, itĀ“s delicious
then you taste it and check the consistency of the sauce and put water in it, I put 500ml in it today
and it was perfect. The sauce canĀ“t be too thick or too thin. It can get thick through the cake and the syrup.

Then you preboil the silesian sausage. Heat water, pour the water over the sausage for one minute.
Then you remove the vegetable, bacon and the smoked sausages from the pot
And put the silesian white sauges in the pot with the sauce for 10 minutes at a very low heat.
Then you eat it with the potatoes, sauerkraut, a lot of sauce on top and the white sausage.
Like I said it sounds super weird because itĀ“s sweet mixed with salty food but itĀ“s really good.
You can eat the vegetables as a side dish but IĀ“m not a big fan of that, I just put it in the sauce
for the taste.
You eat the bacon and the smoked sausage the next days
