I usually gravitate towards seinen and josei titles. Also stories that are subtle and emotionally satisfying with complex characters. Well written female characters are a big hit with me too! I like comics that challenge gender roles and have elements that make you appreciate the small things in everyday life. Oh, the list goes on! Well constructed, immersive worlds and well built atmosphere are other qualities that I find irresistible. I really want to see Action/Adventure/Sport comics, like ones serialized in Shonen Jump, but with female protagonists instead. (I always wanted to make a collective like that called "Shoujo Leap" haha).
Manga that I'm into at the moment:
- Historie (Great narrative and storytelling! But very gory and graphic.)
- Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (Wonderful world building and atmosphere.)
- Bride's Story (Again, wonderful world building, attention to detail and atmosphere.)
- Cesare (Complex character relationships and skilled portrayal of character interactions.)
Manga that I still love:
- Mushishi
- Monster
- Pluto
- Emma
- Children of the Sea
- Aria
- Keikkasishi
- Black Jack
- Ooku
