Most stories can be labeled under more than just one or even two genres; calling something a mystery/thriller, an action/adventure, or a Rom-Com can be a good way to set an audience's expectations, but what if you were more specific in defining your series? What would you label it as, getting as niche as you can?

For example: my novel, based on the 2011 MMORPG called Spiral Knights, is a massive adventure with lots of characters, action, and even more world building, but I can't tell if it falls more into the Fantasy or Sci-fi spectrum. It's about knight-like characters, but they're space fairing, not medieval, and the story follows the events after they've become stranded on an artificially made planet, which is inhabited by supernatural and mythical/fantastical creatures.

Not sure if it should be called an action/adventure, fantasy/sci-fi work, an action/adventure worldbuilder, or fantasy/adventure, sci-fi/action piece. Maybe a bit semi-autobiographical, since it's based on me and many players I interacted with back in the days I played the game? Give it a read, and let me know what you think!

And while you're at it, post your own work with a brief summary and the super specific genre tags or niche concepts you think best describes your piece.

I mix supernatural, science fiction, action, drama... in all my comics

Mostly drama with comedy = :sparkles: dramedy :sparkles:
and occasionally random comedy with a bit of drama = comma?

There's gonna be more action and/or a bit of romance subplots in the upcoming season (might be a few months before that happens, on break rn)

Ohhh, a medical mystery with music themes sounds pretty unique!
Might I recommend pulling back in the details tab, though? You've got a decent hook, but I think it spoils too much of the story right out of the gate; you want to give your reader a reason to keep reading to find out the nitty gritty details, not necessarily hand it to them all at once.

Hey,

Thanks for making this thread. For me, mine would be historical / fantasy! I will start with my current WIP: Revnium - A Young Wanderer's Journey to Homeward Bound. Check out the short description below for my work!If this strike your interest, here's the description below!

Do you ever wonder where we go while we sleep? Revnium takes place in a seemingly tranquil land where people gather from all walks of life... A place where lost memories can be found. However, this place is solely maintained by a girl with an enchanted quill who stands in the fragile veil between these two worlds. Determined to record and make known the symphonies of the countless travellers who have traversed the land. Who knows? Your symphony may be lying in wait amongst her collection...

My comic Karamador is mix of medieval- and reneissance fantasy, heroic sword & sorcery, action, adventure, drama, romance, mystery, with also including real life folk tales and legends and locations based on real historical places.

I love scifi cuz you can just do whatever with it man. STS is a pretty hard scifi, it's set in space, one of the MC's is a clone with implants to make them into an invisible killing machine. Theres some action and some romance, even a smidge of horror but mostly it's a comedy rffing off the outrageous terribleness of the world they live in.

Mine is a mix of horror, action and comedy. I like this way of interpreting the story and from what I have noticed, many of the guys who are reading it have liked that idea. I like horror, but I thought I'd do this with some funny moments to break the tension.

Just started "Mission Statement"; pretty interesting so far! The banter and way everyone gets along is pretty fun, even if I can't help but feel like we're missing out on much of their history together.

Wow, you've got a pretty strong hook to your series! Just finished chapter 2, and there's plenty of horror/drama going on already. I'm curious as to what the comedy aspects you mentioned might be down the line, to break the tension that's already so prevalent in your story.

Thanks homie! I'm glad you're enjoying it. There are definitely some problems with the early sections because I didn't really know what I was doing, but I'm glad that the dialogue still holds up. Hope you like the rest of the series! :smug_01:

It's me again! :)) Letter Addressed To The Fire introduces Waterlily the Nun in this new chapter, The Traitor. Find out more about who the real traitor is as the chapter continues to unfold! This story is told through documents, newspaper articles, letters, and more, aside from the thoughts of the main characters.

Leave your thoughts in the comments or through liking! :DDD Thank you so much! Hope you like it <3 Please subscribe if you find it interesting and you want more :))

This story would probably fall under the genres historical fiction, action, drama, and maybe even romance :))

Synopsis:

Twelve years ago, Azure Skylar, the Knight of the Cross of the unparalleled syndicate, the Chapel, was favored by the Pope himself to work on a mission that would determine the fate of their entire group against their growing rival, the Empire.

Twelve years ago, Azure met Caramella Red Aberdeign and found a friend in her. For once, he knew rest, quiet, peace, and comfort. Little did he know that Caramella Red was also the infamous Sweet Crimson, the ace assassin of their growing rival, the Empire.

A mistake, a wrong decision, a missed opportunity, all wrapped in the same regret that led to the ink on paper weeping about all that should have been said and done before time came and went. A story inspired by Taylor Swift's Evermore, Letter Addressed to the Fire will take you to a trip down the star-crossed soulmates' memory lane and tell you about all that was only whispered in the wind twelve years ago.

Thanks for the thread, NetherSlayer. My first work on Tapas is a fantasy-coming-of-age adventure mixing fairies and old west characters. The rest of my novels can be classified as action/sci-fi/adventures.

I think it's a pretty common mix. Drama, slice of life, romance.

It's about an art prodigy trying to recover from her trauma and find the will to keep herself alive after the car accident that scarred her for life and paralyzed her crush and best friend.

But this one is probably less common, it's a period piece (set in the 2000s 2010s) so I guess:

historical/slice of life/ YA/ drama

It's not a romance, while I'd love to say it also falls under "heart warming" it's not warm and fuzzy enough. It should definitely warm your hearts to see the way the main siblings try to keep each other alive, but it's in some pretty dark contexts.

the story is about a girl trying to save her little brother from himself as he struggles with bulimia, and also protect him from the judgement and criticism of those around them as best as she can.

this is available for free on my Patreon for anyone to read:

Thank you so much for your thoughts.:heart:️ There will be comedy scenes from chapter 3 onwards. With characters that will have their own hilarious touch, especially with a red-haired girl who does not speak but expresses what she feels through her actions.
