What has been the saddest scene in your comic so far?

We've had a couple sad moments in my comic but currently, the one that's gotten most people sadfacing is a small one shot we did for the holiday Tapas collaboration. The idea was the Tapas mascot was running letters around to people in different comics. So we took this idea and had the father of our main character writing a letter to his missing wife. The last panel packs a bit of a gut punch...

There's also an Ultimate X-Men issue by Briand Michael Bendis in which there's this kid who awakens his mutant powers and said powers are: he kills every living thing around him, killing entire blocks of people. The issue is basically just him and Wolverine in a cave. Logan went to find him, like X-Men do, but the reality slowly sinks in: he's not there to recruit him to the special school.

@rmdooley Even out of context this is really strong stuff. I love these shots where you zoom out and there's only the sound, pretty well done.

My comic is basically a tragedy. The first scenes I show in the prologue is my character, Viper, losing her parents and explaining that she was tortured throughout most of her childhood. Which sucks, but I wouldn't say that it's all that sad because there really is no bond between my character and the readers at this point.

So I would say the saddest thing to happen so far is the death of this mother and her son after Viper saves them.

This is one of the heavier scenes I've read from Bicycle Boy.

Now, the reason I'm posting the link itself is because I haven't talked to Jack about reposting his artwork somewhere else so, the link will have to suffice. However, this scene is very heavy and the main character, Poet, has been through an ordeal at this point and is completely clueless as to why it's happening. He sort of woke up into it. The entire comic is beautiful both in writing and in artwork so I always recommend a read.

In terms of one I've drawn, there is a scene that I had to do that made me sad the whole way through and it was this one right here:

I'd actually had a bunch of dialogue that was supposed to go on this page but, when I finished, I felt the expressions themselves did the talking so, I nixed the script. I'd describe the context but, that spoils important things lol.

Well my comic is called Existentialist Crisis so to an extent everything is sad, but the saddest is probably Fire & Liars: Bloody Tears.

Drawing this made me feel very guilty putting the character that means the most to me through something so awful. I think for my readers, who reacted pretty strongly in the comments, not knowing if the character was going to live or die was sad. If you're putting together very sad scene, the more attached your audience is your characters, the more powerful it becomes.

I do a humorous comic strip, but I like to switch it up from time to time. I wouldn't call this 'sa, but more 'bittersweet' or something. When it comes to drama, I don't try to 'force' a reader's reaction. I just present it simply, and let the reader's gauge themselves who the comic makes them feel.

The saddest I've read was the Dex-Starr origin story, it actually made me cry a little. ;v; Can't think of any other stories, I haven't read a published comic in years, and the webcomics I read have yet to get to the major drama or are just sorta fluffy.

My comic is meant to be sorta depressing throughout most of the story... or funny if you're an awful, sadistic person like myself, but I guess the saddest scene is the beginning prologue? It just shows some flashbacks while the main character narrates about how he found this kid by a creek, unconsciously helping to enforce some toxic stuff in their life, and didn't realize it till after that person committed suicide. (The rest of the story so far shows they aren't dead, but the main character didn't know that)

Personally I find it a little cheesy or over the top, but most tragic stuff in stories feels cheesy to me soooo~ I'm just going by reader reaction.

Cheesy? Boy if you don't get that self doubt out of here! it almost made me cry by reading this and it's kind of like the backstory of Crystaleen except the creek part.
