I mentioned this in another thread just now. But partially my job. I work as a social worker and have done so for 6-7 years. I'm interested in people and their stories and feel like I've really got to see some highs and lows during my shot-lived career. But taking part of so many people's life stories really got my narrative desire working. In my comic, I want the characters to be central and I want to showcase the best and worst in them to keep them well-rounded. Even those that don't get a lot of screen time should project themselves somehow.
Secondly, I've loved comics both western and eastern since I was little. I consider comics one of the most interesting and accessible medium out there. Obviously, it's easier to make a comic than for instance an animated series. But it's not just that, I feel like comics are also easier to absorb. You can plow through it or spend hours on one issue.
That's the general overarching reason and inspiration for my comic. The actual story of Voidchild is a bit difficult to get into without spoiling too much. But a couple of major inspirations are Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Full Metal Alchemist, an assortment of spider-man comics across the era, Fables and probably a couple more.
