What is the best day to post Answered...Kind of

So I've been seeing pop up recently the question of when should I post my comic?
Its a fair question, and one we really don't have an answer to since most just post when their schedule lets them, so any day is the best day right?

Well no, I do not like that answer So I decided to be the sacrificial lamb and took 2 hours of my day to compile all the daily views of my finished comic Kao from Sep2017 to dec2019 I copied all the data and placed it in excel to see which days gives us the most views (853 is the population size)

(Also tapas if you could please let us download the data as a csv file please, this is tedious)

So now with the data I calculated how frequent each day had the most views (the best day of that week basically)
and did a pareto chart of it and these are the results

(also Cum%? couldn't you fined a better shortening for cumulative minitab?)

So as this chart show the best day of the week you should post your comic is Fridays with Mondays and Saturdays making up 54% of your total view counts

while Thursdays being and Sundays being the worst of the worst in terms of view count (they suck)

....Ok now for the record this is with my own comic so the numbers might be different, keep in mind I can only do so much with the data tapas itself gives me so take it with a grain of salt. But if this helps any newbies who are asking when should they post it would be all worth it.

Now I extracted all the data from before my comic was posted (wich was in Fridays so that skewed the results)
now with only data after I finished (jan05 was my last page) the population is 52 (only 2019)
so the best days will be

Tuesdays, Fridays and Wednesday; Thursdays and Sundays still suck though.

So yeah Friday still up there with best days while Monday and Saturday where dropped off. Ain't data fun

Though, don't forget the big changer in this that you used a Drama comic. Different genres seem to have different days and even hours of the day that make all the difference. It is interesting how big Friday is in general though, it seemed like a slow day since not a whole lot of comics in my Library post then.

depends on what you mean by difference, without data from other genres I can not say but this was done assuming the variability between genres is statistically insignificant I.E too small to actually change the results.

though if you have data from another comic from another genre I would gladly take it and compile/compare it

No data unfortunately, especially since I'm only starting out and people usually compare their views by month. It's really more checking certain genres and seeing what day of the week they update, and hour if possible, to try and see where my could work out. I can't really say it with certainty because everyone's big subscriber breakout story is different and I most certainly don't have mine yet >_>

Well Comparing by month is great if you have a monthly comic but by day is what we should be doing if we really want to know what day we should post, problem is A) it's quite the hassle (853 manully inputed numbers anybody?) and B) most web comic artist don't really bother with statistics like these

Also just checking when comics update doesn't really help you since the comic viewing public might be in vacation or not opening tapas, your subscribers might be notified but as I hope most people know subscribers is a small percentage of your overall view count =/

So I might post every Wednesday but maybe my viewers only check tapas on Friday or Saturday, is basically what I'm getting at.

though again, no data so this is all assuming

When were your upload days?

The days I upload I always get higher views than the days I don't, so just wondering how that influences your data. If you updated frequently on Fridays, then I think it would make sense that you would get more views on that day.

(Although I have heard that Friday is supposed to be a high-traffic day anyway)

Edit: I see you kind of answered the question above, but not really. Did you post every Wednesday? Or did you post on Fridays?

I posted on Fridays which as it shows is the largest day, but that's only 1 of the 3 most important days being Saturday and Mondays, it might skew the results but by how much I would have to check, also my comic ended about the start of jan 2019 so I could compile only 2019 data and give a more un-skew result since I was no longer posting those days

I appreciate your hard work and number crunching.

Admittedly we know the Tapas algorithms plays havoc with the best of plans but I remember when the best day to post was figuring out the day the fewest others posted so you could maybe get front page traction with the help of your subscribers.

Time is also a big factor, though i feel any data right now will be skewed, for obvious reasons...

Done placed it at the top of the forum with the new pareto

so yeah my posting skewed the results but by about 6% on Fridays so posting will give a boost of 6%

Well if tapas would give me the time data I could do it no problem, though I always posted at the same time so that could be excluded I believe (more so with the new pareto with only data of the finish comic views)
