nincompoop is top tier for the comedy
I've heard someone use "turnip" as an insult and I quite like it. There's a lot of harsh consonants in the word that almost makes it sound like a real insult - as in "Not like that, you absolute turnip!"

I think my "meanest" word would be pathetic. For some reason it stings.
As someone raised on British comedies, I'd have to agree--they have the best insult words."git", "prat", "yobbo", "pillock" ,"sod".
I've heard that Red Dwarf fans are partial to "smeghead".

Personally I find insults targeting your morality to hit the hardest. Disgusting, sick, monster, scum, [any word that accuses you of doing something you didn't do; e.g. based on stereotypes]
