Just by naming whatever memorable book comes to mind (because I really can't decide when it comes to favorites) I'll probably miss a couple, I've read a LOT of books

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy By Douglas Adams (I enjoy pretty much all of his work)
  • Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space by Carl Sagan
  • 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell (I guess you saw this one coming. He's a great author in general)
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Augustine (I haven't read it in a while though, I should probably go at it again)
  • How to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain (Again, I just like his books in general)
  • The Tale of Genji and the Diary of Lady Murasaki (kind of a lesser known one, but I like old writing like these : )
  • The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (I think I got that right...)
  • Alice and Wonderland by Charles Lutwidge
  • Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes (I remmeber loving this one as a child)
  • This is a long list so I'll just make a note that I really like classic literature
  • And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (she's one of those authors that makes a lot of books so, I end up liking some of them and disliking others, similar to Stephen King)

Okay, last one, I promise, I just want to make a tribute to all of the amazing books I've randomly picked up at the library and don't remember the name of. May they rest in peace and live on as amazing works...only in my memory...

@skicoak Oops my bad! Yeah you're right that is even worse! I wonder why it didn't draw in more of an audience then  (admittedly I've never heard of it). Maybe it was just bad timing... and who knows Hollywood seems to be set on remaking just about every movie ever made these days.. so maybe it will get a second chance lol

Anything by JRR Tolkien, but specifically The Hobbit.
Brian Jaques' amazing Redwall series.
Jules Verne 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
Hg Wells War of the Worlds.
I also read a bunch of Godzilla novels but I can't remember any of the writers...
Star Wars : The New Jedi order series in its entirety (multiple authors)

Comics:
One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
Hunter X Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi
Other shonen series MhA, Black Clover, Gintama, One Punch Man

Any of the silver age comics but specifically The Amazing Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk.
The amazing Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley/Stuart Immonen.
The current run of The Immortal Hulk.
There are many more too, but I can't think of the titles right now.

I think Howl's Moving Castle was a trilogy, right? I've only read the first one, but from what I've seen, it was a pretty good book. I should definitely read the other two.

They're all independent books but Howl and Sophie do appear in the other two books. But you don't necessarily need to read Howl's Moving Castle to understand the other too.

@TheFireDragon The more I read of everyone's lists the more books I realized I have left out!!

@dragonsparking I've always meant to read 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, I remember seeing it on my dad's bookshelf and being curious about it but I never got around to it and I have no idea if he still has it.

It's a great story. Captain Nemo is one of my favorite literary characters.

It's centered around the Queen of Hearts before she becomes queen of Wonderland.
It actually gets quite dark.
The only characters from the movie that you'll recognize are the queen of course, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and Chesire, I believe. Give it a look.

@TheFireDragon Philip K. Dick wrote mostly sci-fi, but very twisted sci-fi. In his books he liked to play with reality in that way, that from some point reader starts to be confused what is real and what is not real anymore. Some of his plots contain more than two levels of reality; some turns everything upside down in other ways.. Anyway, things are always not what they seems in his books.
Jeff Noon write psychedelic books, more inclined to fantasy elements. He is also into mind games, but in another way, than Philip K. Dick. It is hard to explain... better read by yourself
Neal Stephenson is either into hard sci-fi or into action adventures of scientists and programmers. In his books he describes a lot of inventions - both real and fiction - in details, so sometimes my brain is overheated by them. :nerd: His plots are a little bit too complicated sometimes, but still thrilling.

Surely my faves are these:
• Harry Potter series (I started reading them when I was seven and they really hold a special place in my heart :’3)
• Percy Jackson series, Heroes of Olympus and The Kane Chronicles (I just love whatever uncle Rick tosses to me)
• Six of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo, (they are extremely original and fresh, you’ll fall in love with every character)
• Lord of the Rings (just a big classic)

But my favourite favourite books ever must be

The Name of the Wind and it’s sequel A Wise Man’s Fear both by Patrick Rothfuss. If you haven’t read it GO TO READ THEM NOW! Seriously, they are a epic(?) fantasy adventure of some sorts with incredible world building and magic system. The characters are amazingly round with deep and dinsticntive personalities is just aaaaaahg... Sorry for fangirling, but believe me, it’s awesome

Lot of Percy Jackson fans here haha, myself included ^^

Favorite series tho is probably The Raven Cycle

I can't believe I forgot to mention one of my favourite story since childhood (Thanks fanfiction topic for making me think about it^^):

-Le Roman de Renart/Reynard the Fox

It's more a collection of stories added by differents authors from centuries to centuries but the adaption I have is the Maurice Genevoix one. I re-read it at least once a year.

You might like Jack L. Chalker then he has written some very interesting Sci-Fi novels, that make you question reality.

@Chita - I started reading the Harry Potter books at about the same age  and thanks for the suggestion another one to add to my reading list!

@OliviaMerteli gotta love the childhood favorites!

When it comes to books, I'll definitely have to go for Pratchett first! =)

My favorite books:

  • Thud! (by Terry Pratchett) - although you can't go wrong with any of the City Watch or the Witch-novels! =)
  • Turmhoch und Meilenweit (by Tonke Dragt, I haven't found an English title, sorry... but this story got me even deeper into Science Fiction and the realm of fantastic)
  • Momo (by Michael Ende)

As for my favorite Comics, I'd go for

  • Elfquest (by Richard and Wendy Pini)

I have never before experienced SO many emotions while reading a comic! Definitely worth reading1, every single page is like inktober and the story is breathtaking!

And I just have to add my favorite all-time manga series, although noone probably knows that one any more, since it's old XD

  • Magic Knight Rayearth (by CLAMP)

Thanks for all the other recommentations in this thread, I know some of them and like the books, however, my personal faves are the ones above

Growing up i really liked Warriors, Dragonlance, the Inkheart trilogy and Sisters Grimm. Currently my favorite books are Animal Farm and anything by PG Wodehouse.

My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut and my favorite book is Breakfast of Champions, which is of course by him.

Favorite book series, though, is the Oz series by L. Frank Baum (haven't read any of the stuff that was written after his death), the one I like the best of that series being The Marvelous Land of Oz (the second book). He wrote 14 books in the series, which is fun. I'm toying with releasing some novels on here re-telling the stories, just with some changes that can alter important aspects (like replacing the maybe-about-9-years-old Dorothy with an adult, as one aspect). I've already started on some of that stuff (of course, I have my own completely original fantasy books I want to actually finish, but sometimes you put your hand into too many projects).

For comics, I like Rachel Pollack's run on Doom Patrol that helped kick off the Vertigo imprint of DC. While overall I'm a Marvel fan, I still acknowledge DC has made some fun stuff. Webcomic-wise, I think my favorite currently (still ongoing and not on hiatus, I should mention) is Magellan. On Tapas, I think I would say it would be the Blue Valkyrie.
