What is your favorite non-romantic dynamic between characters in your comic?

In Numb all dynamics are non-romantic. The reason behind that is that I find myself usually saddened by so many stories, where ROMANCE beats all other forms of love and it's the most important and greatest thing ever. Sometimes it feels like there can't be a story without it.

Also, I don't really understand romantic feelings that well and just flat out suck at writing romances. Originally there was supposed to be romantic feelings between some characters in the comic, but it didn't feel right and once I left them out, characters came alive.

For my favourite dynamic I'm going to have to pick two of the main characters, Severian and Jonan:

Sev is a not too bright, impulsive, enthusiastic shapechanger who's subtle as a brick; Jonan is an intensely serious, irritable, much more intelligent necromancer who has recently lost the ability to speak, a development he would like everyone to keep to themselves, please. Somehow they have to figure out how to get along! I'm, uh, I'm sure they'll be the best of, friends,,,

My comic Goblins of Razard: My favorite relationship is between our character Reign and "the crow." The crow causes lots of trouble in the story, but has a soft spot for Reign. Their interactions are rather priceless.

The main villain in Los Esmeraldas...well main Character has several different forms of interactions with her crew members. the best part I think is it shows a different side of her then what the rest of the world sees, especially with media, "evil terrorist is the spawn of pure hatred in the galaxy!" hahahaha. Sure she's hostel, angry, and little crazy and mean sometimes BUT she has a soft spot under all that cement, a type of honor and nobility. and it shows she has a some deep seeded issues, that she's coping with through these interactions with others.

Well, I haven't gotten to SHOW a lot of it yet but I kinda like Capcom and Namco's friendship, they're the kind of friends who fight each other just for fun and I just find that pretty fun x3
and Namco and Atari's past friendship is really cute :3

I was going to say Damon and Lyall for my comic Zenchav but I'm being told they're not non-romantic by some of my readers via skype XD So they don't count, oop. I guess it's a POV thing.

So I'm going to say Erik and Naples from my other comic Soul Hymn instead, lol. Goat boy with a talking flying squirrel that acts like an overbearing mother, can't get more non romantic than that.

It's probably obvious if you see my illustrations but my favorite has got to be The Angel with Black Wings and Silver. These two angels are totally different in both mannerisms and appearance. The Angel being a kind and caring yet easily provoked and extremely brooding, while Silver albeit brash-looking is totally cool-headed, cheerful, doesn't get angry and super confident.

So here's the thing: Silver likes The Angel but not in a romantic way. (She's not interested in those things) She cares for her a lot and will protect her every chance she gets. On the other hand, The Angel, doesn't really reciprocate. In fact, she perceive Silver as extremely annoying and nosy. Despite that, she doesn't really hate her. They can also get to each others throats because of Silver's extreme strictness for their rules. Plus, they're bound to face off each other in the future.

Of course there's also the relationship between Ray and The Angel. Ray (a human boy) has a crush on the Angel (not the romantic type but more like how a kid has a crush on his teacher kind of thing). Also due to their age gap, mainly their relationship is more like big-sister, little brother or mother and son. The Angel would not take it any other way.

I was refraining myself from replying in this thread because my series hasn't had much progress yet and still in a semi-early stage, but I just-- slide over and put down my children.

IMHO, I think Noah (the main character) and Li of :Rebirth could qualify for a non-romantic dynamic. As much as their relationship are hardly the center of the story (you can even deem it non important) and despite the fact Li is just a side character, I adore their interaction. Noah likes Li, but this 'like' is a feeling that you would have for a close friend. Someone that you can share your feeling with and getting advice from. Li 'loves' Noah, yes, 'love', but her love is a pure form of love that I would classifies as non-romantic. She doesn't want to be a couple with him, doesn't want him to hold her, doesn't even want to kiss him, basically any sort of sexual/romantic things is a no and never even came into her head. But when I say love, I mean that Li admires Noah, adore him, and even came near to the level of worshipping. She can go as far as sacrificing herself for him as long as he can live on and be happy. (As seen in the flashback of first chapter, a very vague one lMFAO)

TBH not much of what I'm blabbering here have been shown in the series yet, but I'm hoping to quickly have more episodes out and portraits more of their interaction T_T because darn it, platonic relationship is my weakness okay...

Sibling bond! In my comic I have a brother and sister who have very little parental support, so they're really close... but they also argue a lot. Writing their dialog is always fun!

Ace question, I'm loving all of these. Character dynamics are so fun to read, they're definitely what keeps me coming back to certain comics.

My favourite character dynamic to write is the one between Morris and Serge, two 'villains' of West. They're a pretty standard boss/henchman partnership but Serge seems to hold Morris is very high regard and doesn't mind expressing it. They have a lot of patience for each other and seem to enjoy each other's company too. I find them very natural to write and really enjoy it.

OOH definitely Cog and William in my comic http://tapastic.com/series/SPIRE (im on mobile rn :/). They're my closest characters that aren't in a romantic relationship. They're two best friends who have been travelling together and helping each other through life until they were able to settle down and become goofy roommates. Cog's a "Hunter" robot who was built to kill vampires, and William himself is a vampire so their dynamic is really fun to write. They're both suuuper overly protective of the other and are always worrying about each other. They've also been living together so long they hate being separated.

Does Bromance (or should I say Womance because my mains are girls?) count? Because that is my favourite character dynamics/interaction/what-have-you, in my comic. Its the relationship you see between my characters Dakota and Ai, they are silly and energetic roommates that play off each others energy. I love seeing genuine friendships in stories. (I know, I am so corny ^^; )

Rick (the MC) She doesn't have any special powers like him, but she can still kick ass. I guess
this gives Rick self-confidence.

Bit of spoileriness here, but about halfway through Galebound, Conan is going to meet his uncle, leading to one of my favorite scenes (specifically, Conan attempting to brain-bleach the knowledge of who his uncle is). He hates this guy, and to find that they're related is absolutely abhorrent to him. Even worse, Conan finds out that he actually owes this guy a lot, as his uncle was at least around after Conan's mom passed away and his dad vamoosed. Most grudging "thank you" ever.

I was such a sucker for only romantic relationship in my teens but am slowly realising, how much of a treasure some other relationships are.

In my Comic Patterns in Snow I would say the Relationship beteen Raphael and his Father.
Raphael has always been a trouble child and has a very difficult relationship with his mum but has been trusted and supported by his dad which build his personality.
There are a lot of scennes in the comic where the both of them just very causaly joke around. A bit of a spoiler, but there relationship gets some more serious fokus later on and there are some scennes I will enjoy very much to draw...

Oh what a fun topic!

The main relationship in my story Magic Advisor is the bantering and fights between my hero Lizzy and my very silly, overdramatic self-proclaimed "super villain" Prim.

In the beginning Lizzy calls the cops on Prim and Prim escapeds ready for revenge.
Now Lizzy has sort of given up on calling the cops and sees Prim as an unavoidable annoyances of everyday life.... ^^

The relationship I most enjoy writing in Zounds, Alack, and By My Troth is Portia and Nerissa, who are the classic servant that is cleverer than their master. Portia is constantly upbeat, naively believing that everything will work out, while Nerissa is always left to pick up the pieces. There's a long-suffering quality to Nerissa, and she's often quite blunt in cutting through Portia's silliness - but nevertheless there's a genuine fondness underneath, and she can't help but get swept up in her mistress's enthusiasm.
