What is your ultimate aesthetic?

Really love the idea. I don't have lots of things, but the last few years I am trying my best to become better in this aspect, kinda funny, but I really took Marie Kondo's advices close to the heart The ideas weren't new, but they felt so important.

I've got many aesthetics what I like and in which I want to create something one day, almost all of them are from XX century, because I just not interested in setting where automobiles and modern-type weapons aren't available (because it's two my most favorite things to draw, yes).

But two my most favorites are neon-style/retrowave/80s stuff.

And second is late 60s-70s-early 80s USSR.

I even thinking sometimes with merging that two styles and create something stylish, I've got some ideas and for that, but I certainly not having enough skill to do that yet.

But old action movie from 80s or a social realism is fine too anyway, of course.

I mean... Neon-style USSR, how cool is that! We'll find the palm trees in Sochi if we need them Sochi actually feels perfect for this idea to me

It's the Temple of Ice from The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night GBA a very, very, very obscure Metroidvania. It's believed to be one of the last non-shovelware games released for the GBA, and the sprite quality really shows, even if usually the camera is too close to see much.

I've got an ideas for that setting and ideas for stories too. I'm slowly developing timeline turning this whole idea into alternative-history universe already. Maybe at some time I even complete that, or maybe not.

Cool line weight, bright colors, awesome backdrops, etc. etc. By far the webcomic that I've discovered to date that I look up to the most and nails the most amount of elements that I strive for is Tapas' own "The Witch's Throne" It's certainly not exactly what I'm aiming for but boy does it tick a lot of the boxes lol

I was impacted by the work of the sculptor Francisco Salzillo. I am so obsessed with the faces and the expressions...
Surprisingly aI don't admire anyone in particular that is a manga artist or cartoonist.

Hahah, yeah, it's so good! Everything is so bold and crisp, reading it is almost like you feel the crunch when biting the bar of chocolate MHA manga kinda gives the same feeling, but the colours definitely make Throne better.

Thie lack of manga inspiration is definitely surprising ^^ but the sculptures are really vivid indeed. I especially like the clothes, it's amazing how realistic they are!

Yes! I mostly sculpt and only my comic is Manga-is style.

The Big Sleep with Bogart, The Third Man, Touch of Evil...most of the classics.
Neo-Noir is more hit and miss with me but I love Brick and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Batman: The Animated Series is damn near perfect. No shame in it's game.

I particularly like old school styles. Since I like fantasy/medieval settings but also postapocalyptic/science fiction ones I kind of like, for fantasy, the aesthetic of the Golden Age of Illustration, like Kay Nielsen's art, for example. And for science fiction I like the old-school comics aesthetic.

Well to be honest, I haven't really found a style that quite captures what I want.

I guess, Vaporwave or Retro 80s is the closest. I love bright saturated colors and overdrive effects.
I also like thick lines too.

Of course I love High Fantasy, so let's throw that in there too. And old Martial Arts movies, so take some of that. Skateboarding culture is cool. Oh...and Metal of course.
I guess...mostly my own art is my ultimate aesthetic. I haven't found many artists that look like my style, but then again, I haven't searched all that much. I don't really research a lot, I just pull whatever comes out of my brain.

I love Kay Nielsen illustrations too. And it reminded me of another of my favorites, Beardsley.

I was drawing an illustration inspired by his works recently, but I completely forgot about it. Should finish it sometimes.

I love retro-futurism. Particularly the late 1700s type depicted in Treasure Planet. It is my webcomic's whole aesthetic.

@Kelheor thanks! Like...I do some research, but it's all basic stuff like anatomy, or looking up armor and weapons, and architecture. Then I just guess the rest of the way and slap my filter on it.

I do have artists I admire, but...they don't make the same style I do. I've watched a lot of action cartoons and movies growing up, so there's a big library in my cobweb covered attic I call a brain. But I can't point to one single influence, there's just too many.
I'm one of those people that when asked why I like something, my answer is usually "I dunno. Just do."
