What kind of brushes do you use? (CSP)

I've been using Clip Studio Paint for a while now and getting a bit more proficient with it if I do say so myself. One thing I do notice is that I tend to really only use the G-Pen for most of the drawing I do, which is probably not a bad thing in itself but I see all kinds of brushes being used by other artists which makes their art pop a lot.

I have been experimenting with brushes occassionally but haven't really settled in a 'favourite brush' if that makes sense. Probably don't have to settle with one brush but I want to broaden my horizons.

If you use CSP, what kind of brushes do you like to use? In other words, do you have recommendations?

I'm also mostly a G-pen user xD, it's good for linearting
For shading I tend to just draw shapes with it on multiply layer and fill them in (for illustrations I'd errase part of them with gradient erase or soft airbrush in transparency mode for a softer look)

For occasional more painterly look I just use dense watercolor
And I've downloaded quite a lot of annoying-to-draw-things brushes like the pearls used in the secod pic (chains, plants, some patterns)

I also use the multiply layer for shading, though lately I've also been experimenting with adding a regular layer and clipping it on the multiply layer and applying gradient or soft airbrush to make the shading flow into the regular colour or just add some flair to the shading.

I mainly use the classic G-Pen too. It's a really solid brush.
I've got a few others I use for effects and such, but most of my lineart uses the G-Pen, I just have it set thicker (like 20px) than most people do.

I don't use CSP often, so for this piece I used the G pen

But, for my contest entry for Webtoon, I wanted ro stay away from clean lines so to speed up page production, so I'm using calligraphy brushes I got from CS assets.

And like for sketching, I use the default pencil brushes: colored pencil and mechanical pencil.

I mostly use the default brushes for webcomics, illustrations and art in general

For example:

I use G-Pen for lineart (and sketching)

After the base color is done, for soft shadows & lights I use soft airbrush

For the solid shadows, I use Diluted Watercolor Brush

Finally for highlights, I use Darker Penecil Brush

For some sketchier artwork, or in specific, the Love Quotes webcomic (Webtoon - Tapas)

I use for sketching / lineart, this Real Pencil

For the grayscale, I use Diluted Watercolor Brush

However, for my Webtoon Contest entry

I'm using for sketching, Lineart and coloring this "Nip With Tips" Pencil (I don't know how to translate this from Spanish, but just in case is "Plumilla con puntas")

Then of course, for effects, ambiance, clouds, etc I just go full on the Asset Store.

Well, my only recommendation would be to just download everything that caughts your attention at the Store (Even more, pay attention since certain brushes are free for a limited period of time before being for pay), it doesn't matter if you're not gonna use it right away, you'll find an use for it later or just to play around.

I see the G-Pen is very popular haha xd, I thought maybe people would find it basic or something. Kinda relieves me in all honesty

I agree (I even discovered a tip recently that using japanese search terms can lead to some different search results which may be handy). It's moreso that I never quite know what kind of lineart brushes I want haha

Maybe I should give watercolour more attention, I rarely use it and currently I also just use G-Pen for the shadows

I use this one for line art/sketches/pretty much everything - it's a bit softer than G-Pen and I have an easier time making neat lineart with it. It does add a little trickiness to coloring since the edges aren't hard but nothing that changing fill settings can't deal with.

This is my secondary brush for adding some soft shadows/more subtle stuff:

Both are free! I've changed settings on my end - adding a small amount of color jitter/turning off stabilizers/changing pressure sensitivity/maybe other stuff too(?) but I think they're pretty nice out of the box.

I use Frenden's ink brushes and Flyland Designs' pencil brush. The ink brushes are the MS4 Flexible Nib, MS4 Organic Brush, and another Flexible Nib brush...the MS4 Flexible nib is my "versatile" brush- the one I use on 90% of my linework; the MS4 Organic brush is second coz it gives me the nice thin lines that I need that contrast with the flex nib(it also allows me to get nice lines on smaller figures in far away panels).

I tried using the G-Pen when I first started with CSP and I didnt like the quality of the line...plus it felt like it was not working how I needed it to flow; I have great flow with the Frenden brushes.

There are other brushes I use as well...a couple of stubble brushes, a leaky rough pen like brush that I use for [Black people's] hair texture, and 2 rubble brushes that I use when I'm doing destruction scenes.
