I was thinking about fears and what kind of characters/monsters you'd guys would be scared of. Me? I'd probably have to say the worst character or thing to go up against would be those Sentinels from X-Men Days of Future Past

I mean just look at it.. It can basically go up and adapt against any mutant..

So what kind of character or thing do you find quite scary?

I thought the Pale Man was quite frightening when I first saw him. And he was in a fairly well lit room, imagine running into this in a dark alley!

EDIT: After some thought, I'll add why I think he's scary. It's because he's almost human but not quite. It's unpredictable what he's capable of. You would think a beast-like creature will act like an aggressive beast. But this thing is different. Like with other monsters people already know about, you can find ways to defeat them, zombies = a damaging blow to the head, vampires = sunlight, etc. But with "new" humanoid monsters, like the Pale Man and many of Silent Hill's abominations, you don't know how they'll react to something, why they look like that, or how they got that way. Basically it is a fear of the unknown.

This is a little weird, but I'm scared of people who appear in unexpected places. You know when people say they're scared to look behind the shower curtain because someone might be there? The actual scenario doesn't scare me, but actively looking at someone who is watching me for an unknown reason freaks me right out.

There's a character in this video game who spooks me quite a bit for this reason - the Grey Man. He's totally mundane but it's not knowing what he wants or why he's there that I find horrifying. (skip to 1:54 to see the Grey Man)

I get the same vibe from The Groke in the Moomins.

So a character that appears in unexpected places for unknown reasons will scare me. Especially if they're staring. 8'(

@ScampiCub that reminds me of the infamous Creepy Watson4 from a Sherlock Holmes video game D: On second thought you might not wanna see that if you haven't already.

Physically speaking, I'm more scared of creatures that are closer to human than abstracted monster. So like, weird blobby Silent Hill abominations are more fascinating to me, but I'm terrified of zombies. Just can't do it. I love scary games but if there are zombies in them I make someone else play. ~u~;;

As far as characters go, I think the scariest ones are the characters who are insane but hide it really well. So you think you'd be safe with them just long enough for them to knock you out and lock you in their basement forever. :u

I'm really terrified of those headless zombies from TES: Oblivion game...
I think that's because you can't tell what their next move will be, because they have no head, so you can't tell where they are "looking" or can't read their face expressions. Once they sense you, those buggers run so fast to get you I just ASSDFGADSGADSFFF HELP

Holy shit, you just made me realise WHERE this fear comes from.

It's the creepy butler from the old Tomb Raider games! He scared me so much, appearing in random places, always trying to follow me. Couldn't seem to get away. Holllllly crap.

Also I watched the Watson video. Whyyyy.

OMG I WAS SCARED OF HIM TOO. I would run all throughout the mansion and hide in the giant walk-in freezer hoping he wouldn't find me, and yet slowly but surely he'd come inching toward me, farting and grunting away. ;o;

OMG LMAO!!! I had to click on the vid to see if this was true and it is!!! I was literally laughing out loud! xD

I think the thing about him that unsettled me more was the rattling. Any sound that precedes an imminent threat I find sends my heart racing, like the thumps (?) when Slender Man gets closer to your location.

I think some of the most frightening characters are ones that appear to have a lot of control over you (or the protagonists you are living the story through). Often its situational, where circumstances have granted them power over others. Exaggerating characters physically can have a really ominous effect too.

I think the scariest character though, has to be Hannibal Lecter from the tv series. Not just because he eats people and turns them into food art. He's super intelligent, seems to know what everyone is thinking, and is always manipulating people. He's always the person with the most control in the room and not because of the situation, but because of what he's capable of. And that's terrifying. Especially when he just does things like this:

(viewer discretion advised)

This. This shit from "An American Tale" is freaking me out! Its movements, its sounds - everything! A rolling friggin' nightmare!
It's called the Giant Mouse of Minsk, if you wanna look it up.

I'm as glad as hell that Alucard from hellsing isn't real if not I would probably sleep with a nuke under my pillow each night

Ill be afraid of this guy :

yup, we cant see him. The old ones!
They exist not from the waking world, and not in the dream world, but in between. Worse, it was suggested its as big as a house and hell! Its a brother of cthulu! But even the great god cthulu cannot see them!
Fear the old ones!

this is going to sound super weird but for like 6 whole years i was terrified of that creepypasta squidwards suicide image?? i still hate it and avoid looking at it at all costs. i used to get super bad paranoia about my tv turning on at night and that image being on it or seeing something like that at the end of a hallway at night.
i think that's the only thing that had me really paranoid for a long time.

I hate the imps in rule of rose, that game gave me nightmares for years
