Hey everyone! I am wondering what kind of Creatures everyone has designed for their novels!

I'll go first with one of my creations known as a Lysis. I designed these YEARS ago on DA, but they are pretty cool IMO  I need to draw an updated version of it!

They are like a mix between a Canine creature and a deer. Both males and females have big horns. They are magical creatures found on the Floating Isles of Lhorre. They guard the temples housing the Book of Lhorre. These are not sentient, but more so angry raging beasts ready to eat you haha.

That's a really cool creature @Lumani , I love the facial features and the scaly legs as well  !
I don't necessarily make a novel but rather a comic, so I'm keeping my creatures out of the mix. It'll be very interesting to see different creatures from different novels .

Oh, neat design, especially the idea with 4 eyes! I apreciate the fluffynes of the creature jet it still looks like one should be carefull to cuddle it.

Also, deer are great to mix  My creature (is in a comic though, hope it still counts) is some sort of deer-dog-horse mix with some spikes of course ^^ They have many different colors and their furr is very short. At the beginning the idea was, that they lay egs but I dismissed that in the meantime - would be kind of unlogical for their anatomy.

This animal is a super fast runner, very smart but can also have a difficult temper. Not many people know how to handle them properly, so they rarely get used tho their full potential. If rider and animal fit though, they will form an unbreakable bond.

Highland Sails
These are little critters that appears around cooler higher place, somewhere nearby the protagonist's home village. They're very small, the biggest can fit on half of your palm, the smallest(offspring) is a pea sized.

They are like slugs in our real life world with some differences. They are light grey colored with light green fur that can blend in with the moss. Their furs keeps them warm. They are quite common highland creatures-- scattered, but easy to be found.

edit: oops, I just realized this is a novel section!

In my novel 'The Demon of the Sea' I have shark monsters! I'm not an artist, but I did try to semi-sketch out my idea so I could visualize it and get it's description across in the story better. I refuse to share the sketch, because like I said, I'm NOT an artist lmao. I'm more than happy to delete if this thread is only for those who have illustrated their creatures!

Essentially it's a part human, part shark type creature. Not like a mermaid where there's tailed bottom and then a human upper body. The creature has legs, a long tail that can change it's shape, a wide triangular shaped heads with black eyes, long fingers that end in sharp claws. It's back has this function where it can inflate or deflate with air depending on if the creature wants to sink in the water or float near the top.

It's stomach is white and it's back is a dark blue with ripples of lighter blue running through the color. This main shark creature has their version of 'freckles' except instead of darkened spots, this creatures has many white spots on his back from hanging out near the surface too often. At one point, my human MC describes them as constellations (white spots on the dark blue skin, it seemed fitting if cliche.)

The original concept for my novel was a world where cryptids exist. But for various reasons, I decided to create my own cryptids with only passing mentions of other monsters.

The species focused on in the story are essentially insect wolf gorillas. If their exoskeletons are destroyed, they can have a second lease on life so long as parts of their skull remain intact. Their skull needs to be worn by a creature in a sort of parasitic relationship for them to function. In their second life, their insides become an amorphous mist (or goo depending on the surrounding humidity) and they can form it into any shape at will.

Here are the main characters, the monster forming his original shape behind his 'host'.

Normally though, he takes on a humanoid shape since his host is human.

oooo! Super cool concept! I like these little guys (maybe not if they were real though haha) They remind me of something you might find off off Alice in wonderland. I like the idea of them having fur too, thats a neat touch.. Thanks for sharing! ^_____^ I love seeing all these critters here on Tapas!

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing these! I love how they have the horse tail but no mane! I could see them being soft like a rabbit or cat rather than coarse! Do they have 'litters' or one single offspring?

Thanks Alexandritea! Im so very glad you like them! ^___^ Please, do feel free to share your creatures with us! Perhaps I should have posted 'series' creatures instead of creatures in novels!!

Oh wow! That sounds like such an amazing idea for a creature! When you first said it was part human, part shark, my first thought was of Maui on Moana :joy: :joy: Your further explanation has since changed my view lol. The freckle idea is neat and it sounds like this creature is very well thought out and planned! Do they play a big role in your story?

Oh my gosh  I have to say this is probably one of my favorites! Mainly because I love things that are rather morbid and fit the macabre theme! The concept here is quite intriguing! I think I will have to take a peek at your series for sure! Thanks so much for sharing these!!

The Glints Saga novels involve beings from a magical world who were once in conflict with humankind, but have made peace after that conflict was brought to an end. These beings, known as "Outsiders" by humans, have many different races among their people.

I took inspiration from various mythologies, artwork, and real-world creatures to come up with the races and their cultures. For example, the six-legged stag-centaurs known as "duneyrr" have their name derived from Norse mythology, and the mirage-like horned rabbit-people "almirans" are based on the almi'raj.

A few other significant ones are chrysideans, a race of butterfly/moth-people (the deuteragonist and love-interest of Papillon being one); and avalerions, fierce bird-people with a system of governance where ruling authority—and responsibility—is placed upon those who have done great deeds. I have some that appear but have yet to be named, others that are named but don't appear in-person in the story, and others who only appeared in the past during the Outsider invasion. (That includes one of my favourites, strelians, inspired by crossing birds-of-paradise with birds-of-paradise—that makes sense. They're plant-beings that exude a mind-controlling fragrance; I ended up writing a side-story to the series involving one that happened to be part of Papillon's backstory.)

Here is another of my 'creatures'! The CarniCanni are zombie looking horses that are carnivorous beasts. They are 'Tainted' by the black river that runs through the marshes, as are all of the creatures and plants that reside there. They are basically Demon horses that host the souls of Craver, and the 13 beings created in his likeness. The CarneCanni and the Dakarai wolf people were banished to the tainted lands by Deacon Moore and the Lhorre Vampires in my series Tainted.

My friend co-designed these with me on Deviant Art years ago, but we have since parted ways with her desire to see Craver and his people be part of my series!

This guy hosts Balias' soul. Balias is the son of Craver and Amara. Their Series will be up soon!

Obviously by looking at these images, over time his design has evolved! The top one is the way I picture him.

Yes! My MC (Walter) is a poor fisherman who's trying to take care of his little sister. In this fictional town, fishing at night provides the best results, but after several people reported seeing a 'demon' in the waters, the mayor banned fishing at night because they don't want to draw attention to their village. They believe the sightings of the demon is a sign of 'hell' coming. The 'Demon' ends up being the love interest of Walter so he plays a pretty decent role.

The funny thing about this story is that it was supposed to be light hearted lmao. I wanted something easier to write than 'The Love of a Werewolf' and now I have this... which is not lighter. Walter is currently sick and Harriet(his little sister) is about to go to town to sell her belongings in an attempt to get enough money to buy him medicine. Like, this is not light hearted at all yet (though eventually it will lighten up)

Woah... 1. Demon horses! I love the concept alone of demon horses (though that could be because I had a weird obsession with the headless horseman when I was really little?) 2. Your art is amazing!! I mean seriously, wow.

So far my comic isn't up yet but, there is a character that sort of counts as a original creature?
She is a 'ghost mutant', a mix of a sentient slime creature made with cotton candy, a clone of a clone and ghost DNA from Mikoto, Mooka and Maako (I haven't drawn her real design recently so here she is cosplaying as those Johnny Test sisters (also Junior is there) (she's the pink haired one))

Probably the creepiest monsters i have ever made.

Hosts of the Dead.

Hosts of the Dead: Vengeful reanimated humans filled with rage and have died in the Demonic Realm. They're only born if the victims are killed unjustly and refuse death to seek vengeance on those on those that wrong them. And they do not simply stop at the one that killed them. But kill those they were a part of. Such a missionary church or a whole village. And for every kill, their bodies morph, convulse, and sometimes grow in scale depending on how much bloodlust is. Once they seek their revenge, they then drag the souls along with the locations to a purgatory-like void. Where the host of the dead will forever torture the souls of its victims. Every Host of the Dead is different from one another and their transformation will also differ as it reflects on their most deep emotions. Don't let yourself become one of their victims.

The creatures have furs while they're basically cold-blooded.
I have to say it's scientifically inaccurate on my part. :smile_cat:

The biggest by far set of original creatures was in my space opera, Space Spinster. This is from the setting guide:

Cha'na:

Cephalopodan species from a water world, cha'na look like a couple of squids stacked on top of one another. Beaks are prominent on their heads, and their eyes are large and oily. They differ in color, remaining on the cold side of the spectrum, often exhibiting beautiful dappled patterns. They live in shoals, and try to intermarry between the different schools. All cha'na start out their lives as males, with some of them transitioning to their female form when reaching maturity.

Mym:

A power to reckon with, Mym Hierarchy controls the Interstellar Transportation Board (It-Be). Physically, mym have six limbs, projecting their tube-like, seven-to-eight foot-long body upwards like furry caterpillars. Unlike the caterpillars, their heads end in twitchy noses with whiskers. Their limbs end in six spindly digits, sometimes more. The amount of eyes, ears, and mouths also vary for each individual mym. Sometimes they grow extra limbs, particularly when regenerating a lost one. Mym range in color from turquoise to indigo. They hear the full sonic spectrum, so their speech consists of a plethora of one to three sound words. Their rate of communication is among the fastest in the galaxy.

Tarksi:

Taksi are smaller in stature than humans, rarely standing more than five feet. They have cigar-like bodies, with webbed arms and the membranes that connect their little fingers to their little toes stretching out to either side of the body, to turn each tarksi into a perfect gliding square. They heads are small, and dominated by huge lips made of three skin folds. They are semi-transparent and opalescent. On their homeworld they filter out lighter gases from the atmosphere to fill up their spare two stomachs to help them in gliding from one rocky peak to another. Tarksis are sought as captains, and they often venture into the galaxy with the ambition to build a merchant fleet of their own.

'...'

The name of these mysterious species is a convention to record an absence of sound of silence exactly 1.33 seconds long. Mym's competitors for the control of the It-Be, '...' have a solid heavy core that keeps the rest of their fluid shape from dissipating into a vapor. The only other thing solid about them are sharp teeth that float up to the surface in seemingly endless rows. Their ability to stay silent during the negotiations with the more emotional species is legendary. As predatory as they look, they have not been known to wage a single war for as long as the Intergalactic Annals' extend into the past.

Variel:

The rogue species could be found anywhere there is trouble in the Galaxy, ready to hire themselves out as mercenaries. They fall back on pirating when they cannot find a war. Physically, they are mono-peds resembling upright anemones, except that they only have one feeler on top. The middle of their bodies feature a mouth-hole, their one vulnerable spot. Variel have a preference for a throwing weapon that returns to sender, though nobody knows why.
