What kind of revenge stories do you like?

There are many revenge stories out there. But which stories do you like?

I personally like John Wick Chapters 1-3 and Netflix's adaptation of The Punisher.

As a matter of fact, they inspired me to work on a revenge story currently in development.

What do you all like?

I liked Payback with Mel Gibson. Revenge stories have been done a lot, but it's interesting to see one where everyone involved is a bad guy.

I second any mentioning of Titus Andronicus. Such a delicious work, wink wink.

Plenty of Westerns are wonderful self-destructive revenge tales, although the only one I can think of right now isn't even a movie/book, but rather, the Red Dead Redemption games.

Though they are very very much a product of their time, virtually every story in the Sin City anthology is a beautifully done revenge tale, though I strongly recommend the graphic novels over the movies

Venom - particularly for this, since his attitude toward the target for his hate shifts and seems alive. He can see the good Spider-man does and lets him go/helps him on occasion.

Anything womanhood related for me.

Gone Girl, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (since @dawgofdawgness mentioned Oldboy ), A Simple Favor, Inglorious Basterds (since @joannekwan mentioned Django Unchained ) and Stoker.

I don't know if The Raid and The Raid 2 counts as vengeance themed (I'd say so).

These are all good stories of revenge.

But I like a story where one hide his lust for revenge and try to be political or diplomatic towards different factions.

Spreading propaganda that would cause factions to divide, forming a mistrust and corruption all in secret which would lead to conflict to one another while the one responsible for it just sit and watch them crumble enjoying his taste for revenge.

Kind of like little fingers's scheme in games of thrones.

I’ve always been really drawn to giallo and exploitation films and specifically the rape revenge sub genre even though it can definitely be extremely problematic. not to get too personal but it really is a power fantasy/escapism type of thing for me even as triggering as they are.

I actually started working on a comic of the genre with the intent of making it not as problematic since a lot of my favorite movies like Ms. 45 were written by men with the sole intent of shock value and exploitation. I wanted to subvert that and make it more of a story that explores trauma and the consequent negative effects of revenge. But I ended up not moving forward with it because it felt a little too personal (even though it was still pretty power fantasy-y).
