What makes SpyxFamily such a popular anime?

Watch it and see. If you think it's just spy stuff you clearly haven't watched or read it. And part of being a good creator is analysing these hings. If you think it's spy stuff, I wonder if you've even read the title, it's sort of all there.

But, not, it's not just spy stuff. It's fantastic voice work, amazing animation, fantastic characters, well timed, genuinely funny comedy, and a well worked balance between family and action comedy drama.

Well, this anime and manga is one that tries to tackle multiple genres at once, and does all of them in a pretty fun way. It's action, comedy, espionage, romance, and slice-of-life all in one story, so I'd imagine there's something in there for everyone to enjoy.

I personally stopped caring about the spy stuff, bc I really enjoy the found family dynamics and how the family's learning to love each other and live together peacefully. Really wholesome stuff

-Found family dynamic around the height of that trope's popularity
-Cute little girl with an iconic design and unique mannerisms who is essentially the true mascot of the show
-Hot lady protagonist who can and will murder you (always a plus in anything )
-Some guy who actually has a reason to exist in the plot (now that I'm thinking about it, they could easily have made Anya and Yor the spies and made Lloyd the random civilian who gets roped into it, resulting in the same basic dynamic as 90% of anime out there...and I'm really glad they didn't ._.)
-Fantastic animation, even for non-combat scenes
-Cohesive color work and interesting set design
-A school setting
-MASSIVE SHIPPING POTENTIAL

...And ^this is coming from someone who's never seen a single episode of the show. =/ It's pretty obvious that it has a ton of selling points, on top of being a unique idea that (at the time) hadn't really been done before, at least not in anime.

Sure the spy stuff is cool but it’s not SpyxFamily biggest strength,which is the audience watching three complete strangers turn into this wholesome family. Not to mention it’s easily something that a anime fan can get one of their family members interested,SpyxFamily is a family oriented show which
means a bigger audience. All in all it’s a good series filled with comedic action pack,family moments with a sprinkle of politics too.

the spy/ espionage stuff is so over done on tv and movies however i love the art style, animation , characters and story of this anime. It all works

It's an episodic comedy slice of life anime with massive mainstream family normy appeal and very very little weird or lewd stuff that you'd be embarassed to show anyone. Also the 1970s-80s pseudo-East Germany/West Germany setting is visually very appealing and nice to look at. On top of that great character designs and Anya is a good mascot to sell merch of like Pikachu is for Pokemon.
