What parts of your comic work would you be willing to pass of to assistants if given the chance?

I was thinking about this since I always winge about hating colouring But I also love almost all parts of comic making!

For me, I love sketching, lineart and shading so much that I think I'd only be willing to pass off base colouring work to an assistant. Hell, I pay one of my friends to colour my pages when they're able to, but I'd love to hire a full time colourist one day. Right now I only pay for colouring if I know I'm super busy.

But like, with every other process of making comics- I love it so much that I don't want someone else to do it. The sketching phase is pretty much giving myself a good idea of what the scene will look like and bringing it to life, lineart is relaxing for me and I love drawing the details and seeing the art refined, and shading is so nice as it really sets the mood.

I dunno, having someone else do it just isn't the same. This means I'd probably get pages done slower, but tbh I don't care. I feel like I have a very specific style of lineart and shading that just isn't the same when someone else does it, and I like having control over how that looks.

Base colouring is not a very creative part of the process for me, it's just filling in the colours I have pre-set for my characters. Doesn't bring me much joy when doing it, it's only when I know I can move onto shading that I get excited.

Same, I think I'd only hire a colorist if given the chance. The way I do my sketching, and subsequently line art, is quite specific and I enjoy linig pages anyway. I also like doing the special effects and lighting, as well as the sfx.

I thought about it but I wouldn´t want an assistant to do part of the job.
Flatting is part of the drawing process for me because I leave gaps in the line work

Pretty much the same. Making my comic is such a personal thing, and I really love doing it, buttttttt I'd totally pass flat coloring off to an assistant lol. They can deal with all my line art caps and fill in them bases so I can do the fun parts lol.

If anything down the line when I finish and a assistant wanted to do a side story or continue off with my characters with a after story I'm fine with that. I'll just be a overseer like kishimoto is with Boruto

Over the past few months i hired an assistant for the base colors and honestly i wish i had done this sooner! Base colors are the most tedious part for me, i honestly love coloring and shading but i always find i get so bored doing the base colors and I'm just looking forward to the shading part. Hiring an assistant to help with that has been great, I feel like my lineart and shading have gotten better since because I'm able to spend more time on them as I don't have to rush to meet deadlines.

If I could hand over another part it would be backgrounds, I'm okay with what i managed to do with the backgrounds in my comic, I use photos i take and 3D but i wish i could put more detail into them, this includes drawing buildings, houses, cars, stuff like that.

Coloring! Absolutely the coloring! It is so time consuming!

I'd never hand over thumbnailing (where I'm deciding what the scene will look like), linework (because if someone else does it, it won't look like MY art), or coloring (see again, won't look like my art if I don't do it... and I can't have someone else flat with markers, unfortunately!), but I WOULD theoretically let someone else ink (and especially re-ink) if they have a style of inkwork similar to how I do mine.

Scanning and editing I'd gladly hand off, though. PLEASE let someone else deal with scanning, color-correcting, cleaning up the gutters and margins, fixing small errors, and putting in the text! This process does not spark joy!!

Advertising and making ad graphics.

I am fine drawing the comic, the whole process is enjoyable for me, but advertising is a pain in the ass. Absolutely hate it, and I'm super bad at making ads, can never figure out what to show that would be appealing, give an idea of the story AND give enough room for the title and all that jazz.

If someone can mimic my art style perfectly, they can do the line art.

I'm willing to be flexible on getting a colorist as long as they are really really good.

Now, what I really could use is a social media assistant

Honestly, all of it, as long as they won't be offended if I made edits at each stage to better fit my vision ^^; My main issue with outsourcing is less that I'm particularly attached to any parts of the process of creation, and more that I'm a total control freak and would probably be a nightmare to work under :'D

That, and my process isn't that cut and dry; I colour everything in one go without separating it into flats + shading, and I often go back and tweak my inking midway because I forgot something Imagine my assistant being halfway through colouring and I'm like WAIT STOP, just gonna quickly fix this part of the inking that you've spent 30 minutes colouring ... okay, continue :]

Inking would be my #1. I’m too sloppy for it, and my hands give out really fast. I mean, I’d love to just do scripts and thumbnails, but inks would be divine.

Dang, I guess everyone hates flatting haha But honestly same.
Flat color and lineart took the longest in my case!
But honestly, I need an assistant to do flat colors and determine panels' position and sizes.

I would need one or two 3d artists to build 3d environments (backgrounds) and render them for me, I can do it alone but takes so much time and stressful. Maybe if I have funds someday will hire 3d artists as assistants. 3d backgrounds example:

Oh yup, 3D backgrounds are super time consuming, making them for my comic took FOREVER. I'm guessing hiring someone to model them isn't cheap at all.

Your models look great! If you don't mind, I was wondering what your process for making the city buildings was? I struggle to make city scapes because of how large/detailed they are
