What parts of your comic work would you be willing to pass of to assistants if given the chance?

Advertising and making ad graphics.

I am fine drawing the comic, the whole process is enjoyable for me, but advertising is a pain in the ass. Absolutely hate it, and I'm super bad at making ads, can never figure out what to show that would be appealing, give an idea of the story AND give enough room for the title and all that jazz.

I'd keep scripting and thumbnailing to myself at least.

If someone can mimic my art style perfectly, they can do the line art.

I'm willing to be flexible on getting a colorist as long as they are really really good.

Now, what I really could use is a social media assistant

Honestly, all of it, as long as they won't be offended if I made edits at each stage to better fit my vision ^^; My main issue with outsourcing is less that I'm particularly attached to any parts of the process of creation, and more that I'm a total control freak and would probably be a nightmare to work under :'D

That, and my process isn't that cut and dry; I colour everything in one go without separating it into flats + shading, and I often go back and tweak my inking midway because I forgot something Imagine my assistant being halfway through colouring and I'm like WAIT STOP, just gonna quickly fix this part of the inking that you've spent 30 minutes colouring ... okay, continue :]

Inking would be my #1. I’m too sloppy for it, and my hands give out really fast. I mean, I’d love to just do scripts and thumbnails, but inks would be divine.

Dang, I guess everyone hates flatting haha But honestly same.
Flat color and lineart took the longest in my case!
But honestly, I need an assistant to do flat colors and determine panels' position and sizes.

I would need one or two 3d artists to build 3d environments (backgrounds) and render them for me, I can do it alone but takes so much time and stressful. Maybe if I have funds someday will hire 3d artists as assistants. 3d backgrounds example:

Oh yup, 3D backgrounds are super time consuming, making them for my comic took FOREVER. I'm guessing hiring someone to model them isn't cheap at all.

Your models look great! If you don't mind, I was wondering what your process for making the city buildings was? I struggle to make city scapes because of how large/detailed they are

Those models I bought from blender market. It's very time consuming to create each of them of course. Though the models are for my personal use. Yeah, hiring a 3d artist for making 3d backgrounds will be expensive especially to build a complex scene with high details. But the nice thing is we can reuse, point the camera at any angle we desire, and then hit render.

Every other part of my work is really more suited to me and my art style, that being sketches, lineart, shading, dialogue etc. But flat colours is something everybody can do who.

I was thinking the same thing, mostly for the background but as time goes by I change my mind.

I am still practicing the background and even if there are some panels I don't like doing, I still do it because what is important to me as storytelling is the expression of the characters and I enjoy drawing the character's face.

So yeah, I may not have an assistant for my comic for a very long time.

as someone who already does use regular assistants — flatting/coloring and parts of the lineart.

flatting/coloring: I don't shade my characters so having someone else do the flats takes off a huge workload, and it's also something basic enough that doesn't require style matching.
lineart: I draw the face, the assistants draw the rest of the characters (except in major scenes, where I'll draw everything) as well as some background mobs, if needed.

I still do the storyboard/sketching, sound effects, lettering, backgrounds, social media promotions, etc. I've recently started working with story assistants/editors and that's been a super exciting experience too. A lot of what I earn goes to paying my assistants but I'm happy being able to work with different people and most of all, lessening the burden on my shoulders

Having some assistants or even a whole team would be amazing! I'd really love to have some help, not because I dislike working on my comic (far from it, in fact), but because I'm always afraid I won't be able to finish it if I work on it all alone. The stages I enjoy the most are sketching, toning and lettering. That said, I think I'd leave inking to some of my assistants. I wouldn't leave it entirely to them, but rather split the pages. Each of us would have an amount of pages per chapter to ink, in order to conclude the work faster.

Also, I think I would leave backgrounds (especially the inking phase) to someone with more experience than me, who can produce good and consistent backgrounds. I'm slowly getting better, but I'm still weak on the lineart and I have a lot to learn!

Last, but not least, I'd hire a colorist to produce a colored version of the series. I'd probably publish the colored version on internet and print the b&w one, although I'd also love a printed colored version. Anyway, this is still a dream of mine and I hope I'll be able to make it come true, even though I don't have my hopes up

Edit: It just came to my mind right now, but I believe I'd also hire someone with experience in marketing in order to promote my comic. I'd leave the task up to them, since I'm not very good at it.
