So, what I do is whenever I beat a video game, I look up its inspirations and put it on my list (Books, Music, and Films). I did this as a way to force myself into getting into different stuff and to broaden my horizons.
Also because it's fun to see what I have to read/watch/listen next. I have NO CLUE what I'm getting.
Here's the books I read so far:
1. The Art of War (Listened to this while playing a video game. Sorta treated this as one of those self-help YouTubers lol. Still though, I forgot a huge chunk of it. I only remember three rules. One of them being "Kill your spies" because of how cutthroat it was)
2. Fist of the North Star (LOVED Part 1 to death. I think it should've ended there despite Part 2 having some great ideas. The final part was probably the worst part for me. Killed off and ruined some characters. Also a ALL OF THE MEN KENSHIRO MEETS DIE IN PART 2. Like... this normally isn't a problem for me, but it does get annoying that they always leave a widow. Gets a little repetitive. Mix it up a bit even if it IS for a theme.)
3. Tomorrow's Joe (GREATEST MANGA EVER. Even though it's my second manga I completed :v. It's also cool when you're part of the sport. Ending hit me like a truck.)
4. Paradise Lost (I'm actually surprised I loved this book so much. I keep on hearing from people that it's daring for making the Devil seem sympathetic and how it's supposed to challenge me as a Catholic but like... the Devil stuff was probably the weakest part for me imo. I get what the writer was trying to do? But I guess I had my expectations raised a little too high? The Adam and Eve stuff was amazing though but only AFTER they've eaten the apple. That gave me a new perspective on things. The concept of Adam having doubts and then seeing that humans will still go out of their way to be pure despite his mistake was beautiful. Also the scene where they mentioned how the Church "Brought people towards God, but not the spirit" or something like that... brilliant. Plan on making a webnovel based on this :v)
5. DC Comics Up to Janus Directive (Eh... it was alright. Manhunter's becoming one of my favorite super heroes though. The concept of him knowing every evil society on the planet and only going after the ones that he KNOWS he can beat is a funny subversion of the superhero trope. Love how he CONSTANTLY asks others to work with him... not just so he has a higher chance of surviving... but only so he can make more money taking down stronger societies. Loved that he's forced to save the world against a society he doesn't even know about and the dude's just.... out of his element.
6. Anything Kingpin Related in Marvel (This dude is officially my favorite supervillain. Born Again and Last Rites was amazing.)
Stuff to Read:
1. Nausicaa Valley of the Wind
2. DC Comic Stuff
3. Mirage's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
4. The Silence of the Lambs
5. The Familiar of Zero (I... yeah... like I said, I don't really pick 'em so don't judge :v)
6. Watchmen (Again)
7. 20th Century Boys
8. Marvel Comics (Everytime I beat a boss in Insomniac Spider-Man series, I'm reading every comic revolving around that particular villain. Kingpin was the first I encountered :v)
9 The Spirit
10. Rurouni Kenshin
11. Journey to the West
12. YuYu Hakusho
13. Don Quixote
14. Save My Earth
15. 1984
