What to do about the naughty plants? nsfw

so having received my "you are a naughty creator!" email telling me two of my comics offend the apple 18th century values i have had to mess about changing my banners, thumbnail and my add for where i sell my comic issue ( as they were so offensive showing boob shaped mushrooms!)
however I now have another problem regarding my compendium. two page feature "rude" plants that are meant to be humours but are important parts of the Blunderland world in their own right.

so do i now remove or censor these pages? I cannot show the plants but the information is needed and the pages will look dull with no picture.

Your quandary makes me wonder if this stupid app is also going to flag and block Georgia O'Keefe? Because the world needs a mega corporation defending all our good moral sensibilities.

I have little to no knowledge about what exactly the phones are doing, since I don't care to do much on my phone besides text and don't usually look up comics on my phone...

This is just so annoying.

They should give you an option to chose blocking NSFW imagery, not just splash it across the board. Not everyone on the planet who owns an Apple phone or whatever is a uptight about nudity and porn, or has kids. I feel they should give you an option to turn the auto-screening off if you don't want it. Or at least give a person the option to view it and judge whether or not they mind what's been flagged (I mean, it could be flagging non-offensive stuff, if it's anything like what Tumblr did.)

Sorry, I have nothing of import to help you with your problem, but I did feel like venting. It really doesn't even effect me since I don't own one, and I don't think I'm reaching enough people for it to be an issue...so...yeah.

there are other posts about this on the forum. but basically if your comic is blocked from the apple app you loose large amounts of potential readers (or so i understand)
I too do not have any apple tec or a mobile phone for that matter.
This is so frustrating to me I'm in the mind-frame of "why am I bothering?" at the moment.

It makes no sense at all to me, they give children too young sex education and then tell Adults they are not allowed to look at nipples! even mushrooms with nipples!

and there are real rude looking mushrooms in the world!

I feel like this is going to tick more people off and push them away from Apple products, rather than boost sales. I checked that the thread Kei started, and if their comic was removed...and I've read a good chunk of it...it's just silly to have removed it! And people seem to be getting pretty steamed about it, I know I'd be ticked to loose a comic I was reading (I guess they could still read it on a laptop or computer, but some people have been forgoing lappies for phones...so...)

I'm trying to figure out who is benefiting from this? Guess it's just another reason to stay away from their phone products

Thanks for the update! I really hope there's a way for you to work around it! I think...maybe people's best course of action would be to flood the company with complaints. Maybe...just maybe it will inspire them to re-think this decision.

and now after i have replaced my comics for sale button with something more tame, I find it's been replaced with an advert and I cannot get the damn add link working again, it just wont save. I need that link to my gumroad working it's my sales life line
five years I have been loyal to this website, I stayed when others were leaving in droves and i have constantly been getting people interested in other peoples comics and now this! it F'n Sucks!

i mean, these plant concepts... are pretty kinky. are they really important to the plot of your comic? id just delete them. even if they are plot important (and given theyre all about growing tits and having sex, thatd be a bigger censorship problem for ur comic than just these episodes), you should be able to incorporate this information into the plot itself

i have. the compendium is to give readers extra information without bogging down the story. and they are important because they deal with trade issues and addiction issues that in turn give out a moral message about not getting addictions in a fun way.

the problem is the very concepts of these mushrooms is adult, so you cant just scribble over the not-nipples and be done with it. just make them a patreon bonus or something

it's a sad day when creators have to vandalise their own art work to censor it. if this is the lengths we have to go to to please Apple, Tapas might as well change their policies to conform to the outdated views driven by the same cotton wool wrapping Idiots who have just about wrecked everything else in society . if this is not attended too it will cause the death of this site.

Or are you going to put up a censored version beside the original?

I mean, have two versions here, like people has two versions in different languages.

So Apple readers can find the second version, know what's going on and read your original one through mobile or desktop

Yeah I don't think there's anything against LINKING to mature content like in the description, so maybe direct readers to click/copy the link in the description for the uncensored page.

I'm trying to figure how to do this for Webtoon since eventually I'll have to censor some stuff for there and want to point this out and direct readers to the uncensored version.

so for the people who were wondering about the censorship problems with my comic.

the Blunderland compendium was censored on three things images of rude plants that i have already covered and the third thing was a naked fairy why a nude fairy is so offensive to Apple I dont know especially as I had marked the page in question as Mature. I have now removed the fairy from the page.

I had planned to do a page about fairies but now i will have to rethink that because my fairies don't wear clothes.

but in regard to this topic the question remains...

what is the point of Tapas allowing us to have a mature settings if we are then going to be told not to put mature work in our content?

Well you can but you can't have it on apple apps without it being censored, so you do still get it on android and the website. I an certainly understand the frustration tho
