What tool do you use to create your webcomic?

Do you use a graphic design specific tablet connected to your laptop, a regular tablet, your laptop, or a graphic design tablet with a screen? I'm thinking of purchasing a wacom but I'd like to know what is commonly used and what is easiest - directly from tapastic's comic creators. I already have an idea of what program I want to buy but I want to know what actual means everyone is using to create their work.

I used to use a Wacom, but I use a Monoprice tablet now. Mine has six programmable buttons, which fulfills my quick-access needs while I create. Monoprice tablets are a fraction of the cost and there's no discernible quality difference. I haven't used the display tablets, because I prefer looking at my screen and moving my hands on my tablet, rather than looking at the tablet and moving my hands on it; I transitioned to full digital in part because I couldn't keep hunkering over a drawing table for hours every day. My back simply can't handle it anymore.

I know a lot of people use Wacom, and they are solid tablets, but they're so overpriced (and at this point, so overblown). Even if the tablet I use takes a battery for the pen, I just get a rechargeable. It lasts for months on end of intensive daily art.

I'm using a mouse because it's what I have. I don't find it easy per se, just very different from drawing traditionally. Honestly, it was very difficult at first, steep learning curve and all, but I've adjusted and like to think I can draw decently.
If you're used to drawing on paper and think that works best for you, a tablet would suit you more.
Mouse works fine if you have no money to spend, but it takes a while to get used to. : D

For colouring, I have a laptop and use an outdated & tiny Wacom tablet. (I actually prefer the older graphire to the newer intuos but I haven't tried anything newer than that). I like using the smallest tablet since it's super portable!

At some point I'd love to try a Surface Pro or Surface book, but my little tablet does the job so I haven't been in a huge rush to try out new stuff. ;u;

This tablet is basically the closest thing they have now to the tablet I'm currently using. They're always developing more and doing different things, which is good. I have a backup tablet that I ordered from them during a sale, and if you sign up for their newsletter, they'll let you know when sales are happening (which is often); you can save a good bit of money then.

Of course, when you get any tablet, it's important to calibrate the pen and play with settings, if available, in the programs you're using too. Clip Studio Paint has a calibration tool in the program, which you should use as well as system calibration, if you use that program, for example. I recommend writing down your settings and taking screenshots. If anything happens and your settings are lost, you can at least use the screenshots and notes to get back into the general vicinity of your previous settings, and that will save you a huge amount of time. I'm speaking from experience here after some unavoidable system trouble wiped out my settings. Always take notes!

I use a Huion 1049 tablet or something. It's rather large and a lot nicer on my wrist than my previous Wacom bamboo.

I use a desktop computer with dualmonitors, photoshop, and my Intuos tablet. I do everything 100% digital now but I used to ink by hand (I just had to stop because it's expensive and I didn't have reliable income for the longest time) I would not recommend investing too much if it's your first tablet, just on the chance you don't end up liking it, and I know there's less expensive tablets out there that are perfectly fine for your first one.

The one I use is the Wacom Intuos4, which is also outdated but still on the pricier end. I can vouch for the graphire @shazzbaa linekd to as well as that was the model I had before I got my intuos as a graduation present and it worked fantastic until my parents had the bright idea to put it in our moisture filled georgian garage and it corroded the chord and turned it this really crazy green. (I wasn't using it anymore by that point, but it was still kind of a shame cuz I could have given it to someone who wanted to test tablets out.) I have no idea how quality the newer wacom tablets are, but I know the older ones are super sturdy and can last you a long time if you, well, don't leave it in a moisture filled georgian garage which is basically the same as dunking your tablet in water.

I still use the old fashioned Bamboo Fun tablet. I got an off brand years ago but it was screwy, so I went back to the Fun. If you want a more modern day one, I always hear good things about the Intuos line. I use a wacom cintiq companion 2 and Clip Studio Paint to make my comic. The wacom cintiq companion 2 is very pricey but it's so worth it if you can afford it. It's by far the best tablet I have ever bought.
As for Clip Studio Paint, it's a great program for making comics, I haven't never had any problems with it and enough people use it that tutorials on how to use it are easy to find.

I have a Wacom Cintiq 13HD and I use Paint Tool SAI & Photoshop CS5 to make my comic. After finally buying a Cintiq I don't think I could use my old Wacom unless I absolutely needed to, it is SO much easier to see what you're drawing rather then using muscle memory and hand eye coordination to use other tablets. When it comes to Paint Tool SAI in use of making a comic, it honestly just comes down to preference, I used to have Manga Studio Debut 4 but I could never get the quality to look right and I could never learn the program quite like I wanted to. It goes the same way with working on an animation, I'm more used to using CS5's dingy little animation tab instead of using the Anime Studio Debut 10 that I have just because of preference and ease.

Thank you, haha but this just reminds me how baI am at adapting to technology like that. XD I was planning on buying the Manga Studio software too but from the website it seems like it only works on tablets. When you use your pc do you use photoshop or some form of paint? I would like to try my hand at whatever is readily available first before fully dishing out money on more pricey options. If I used my laptop I was thinking I could hand draw everything then scan it to my laptop and see if I could edit things & clean it up from there. Whats your experience with that?

I've never done this, but it is a good option. Perhaps someone else with more experience could answer this.

Yeah I was just checking out the intuos earlier but idk how I feel about looking at the computer screen when I'm drawing on the actual tablet. Knowing my hand eye coordination it'd be a little difficult for me lol, but I think I could manage after some practice. Its good to hear that you've had good experience with a graphire though. This will help me in making my final decision, thanks.^^

As far as tools, I use a Wacom medium pen & touch tablet. I just started using this tablet about a year ago, so I havent had the luxury of using a digital tablet most of my art life. For software/programs I use Clip Studio for drawing/inking, Photoshop for coloring(I toggle back & forth between Photoshop & Clip Studio for certain effects), and I use Illustrator for lettering.

@lambspell starting out I used to traditionally pencil & ink on paper then scan it in to my computer & color/letter. I like the "crispness" that I get when I do traditional pencil/inks, but working digitally I can cut out a lot of the cons that come with traditional work and I feel the resolution of my art has a more "fuller" feel to it.

I'm loving the size. I'm surprised at the price considering how big it is. Thats another plus in my books lol.
