What was the inspiration behind your comic?

It's not really obvious, but it was due to my faint desire to combine fantasy and noir, even though I didn't read too much of the former. The latter I grew up reading, I fucking loved it.

While my comic is more geared towards mystery and fantasy instead of noir now, I'm currently re-writing and editing the entire storyline so we'll see if I can fit in some concepts of noir.

Well, the inspiration behind my comic is just to make comics about things other people might be thinking or feeling, and just make calming comics that try to show them that its going to be okay and that you just need to stay calm. Pot of Gold actually started one day when my sisters and I were playing with our Harry Potter action figures XD The twins were two Hermione dolls; we called them Hermione and Hermiona! I was twelve. Afterward we joked that we should make it into an anime and I just kinda ran with the idea, developed and redeveloped the story, and it became one of my biggest dreams to write it for real! And well, here I am Pot of Gold

I like it! Trying something similar but I'm more trying to adapt the period into my own unique setting. One that you could see occurring in another world under similar but slightly tweaked circumstance to the middle ages. The medieval era usually gets so many modernisms thrown in to romanticize and soften it into something kind of bland and unchallenging. No pre-industrial setting could normally be so universally progressive. And then too many fantasy stories have gross authorial sexism/racism and use the period to justify it. So it becomes an interesting tightrope to walk. You sound like it's headed the right direction.

Originally I had drawn the titular character from my strip as a doodle on a note for my manager saying we needed more paper for one of our massive printers. I actually rather liked how he turned out, so I decided to keep drawing him.

Eventually I got the inspiration to create a little world based on doodles and started coming up with more characters (e.g. Rippo, Guthrie the Giant, Queen Decaf, etc.). I decided that since I had never done an ongoing comic strip before, I'd use this as a chance to get some practice in doing a weekly strip. It's been a bit arduous since I've decided to get more ambitious with some of the background designs, but I'm still going at it over half a year later somehow.

In terms of inspiration on the visuals, I'd say it's a mix of Sanrio, Katamari Damacy, Krazy Kat, Kirby, and Impressionism/Post-Impressionism.
