What was the strangest/funniest/most embarrassing thing you had to research for your comic?

Most of what I researched was animal behavior, primarily Hyena behavior (and it is strange, let me tell you). "Hyena coat patterns," "Hyena teeth," "Hyena claws," "How do Hyena's give birth," "Hyena social structure," "Hyena babies," and this fell in line with other facets of research following the same vein in regards to other animals. Suddenly, lots of videos in my Youtube and google suggestions say things like: End poaching, how one park stopped poachers, exotic pets aren't pets, and so on. I'm pretty sure my browser thinks I'm Cruella DeVil now.

Researching gore/ mutilation/ crime scenes etc. I don't like pretending it doesn't happen, I write for mature audiences. But I also don't like it when authors take it way over the top for "shock and horror" value which in my opinion, doesn't work. So I look it up not only to see the natural ways the body reacts to certain types of injuries, but also to desensitize myself in order to draw it as well.

I needed a pose reference and I didnt know how to brielfy describe it as "man in tuxedo sittinging in chair with legs crossed", I guess its more oddly specific than weird 😂

My google image searches would seem very odd to anyone who didn't know I'm an artist. It's all stuff like "dragging dog" and "woman sitting at desk from above" because I'm trying to find reference images of people in specific poses from specific angles. Most my searches still look relatively innocent (if still weird as hell), but there was a scene recently that required me to google pictures of a bunch of different dead animals: "dead bird" "dead mole" "dead dog". I couldn't bring myself to google "dead kitten," though. I think my search engine might hate me for searching so much weird shit, because I'll find awful stuff while googleing seemingly innocuous things. I googled "car underneath" once, and way down the page I saw a photo of a car accident victim that I'll never forget.

Most of the things that I've researched for Between Hay and Grass wasn't....weird or embarrassing, most likely? If I say the weirdest thing, it would probably give away a pretty big plot point and I'm frustrated.

I wanted to get an idea of the economics and size of the main building that the story takes place in, realizing one of the characters own what is just a 3-story Inn and installed an elevator; which is very, very expensive.

How thick walls usually are, how thick floors usually are in multi-story buildings, how big hotel rooms usually are; etc, but then like this is a Cartoony World and all of this Doesn't Really Matter so

I ended up frustrating myself

I guess one of the more "quirky" things I researched was looking to see if there were other Wild West-themed hotels or inns, and drawing inspiration from them.

ok there was this one time when I'm trying to research love scenes in youtube , I hard time drawing the make out scenes where the characters would take off clothes and doing nasty, I get the giggles especially when a guy took off his shirt ...damn but when the scene was more intense I was like whoa..that's enough for me to see that

I've got nothing off the top of my head tbh since most of my research already comes from things I know. The best I've got is I've come across forums of people who've stated they've met/they meet with actual angels and went off to describe their physical appearances and etc.

I have no problem with that but it's...interesting nonetheless.

not for my current webcomic, but for a future comic i took to looking up videos and articles of spiders mating, and after about half an hour of that dreck i had to take a break to scream into a pillow because i am afraid of spiders. after the break, i went back to find visual references of maggots, and almost fell out of my chair.

i know way too much about how bugs have sex and i'm bitter
