What was you childhood favorite book/Tv show, and how does it influence you work today?

My favorite book series was A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler). I love how Snicket is an actual character in the series!!! It was such a unique concept to me as a kid and I can't think of any other children's books that does the same thing.

In my webcomic series, I love to leave notes about research I've done and documents I've uncovered as the story progresses. I 'interview' the characters to document their stories and experiences. I haven't decided if I'll actually make an appearance in the story, but it's just really fun to pretend my story is a real world that I'm actively participating in.

That'd be Moomin too.
I could not say it directly influences my writing/art, but indirectly for sure, as I consider the Moomin series as one of the most influential things in my life as a whole. I've been a fan since well over 30 years.

I'd say the things I particularily like in the series are the whimsical political incorrectness coupled with the way the characters naturally and wholeheartedly accept weirdness from each others and their environment; and also how very difficult themes are woven into a generally optimistic and comforting world, also shown as natural acceptable part of life, and without artificial, moralistic good/bad oppositions.
I think that last aspect probably shows in most of my works.

Let's see, for T.V. shows, my favorites as a kid were Teen Titans, Ed Edd n' Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Codename Kids Next Door. They made me love atmospheric and dynamic styles as well as helped me analyze some elements of good story writing. One being that meanies get what they deserve

For books, I love the Goosebumps series and it actually inspired the novel that's currently going on my page I also adored Esparanza Rising, A Christmas Carol, Because of Winn Dixie, and the Edgar & Ellen books (any of my late 2000's kids remember?) I would say that they helped me learn how to craft a world that has very real situations and settings with elements of fantasy and sci-fi. In school we emphasized on imagery, metaphor, foreshadowing, etc. and these favorite books of mine definitely helped set the path to my writing.

My childhood was pretty media starved. Mostly it's the stuff I experienced at around 16 or so that influences me the most today.

Ramona Quimby, Pippi Longstocking, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Coraline were my golden four growing up and you can really see their influence. The overall tone of my current work is kind of akin to the other world, as well as they waxing and waning heavy descriptions. The story is about people thriving off their own egotism, which is how Diary's Greg lives his life, and the characters are sort of out of touch and prone to long winded speeches and bursts of odd commentary in the same vein as Pippi. As for Ramona, those books are a masterclass in perspective, which is what I try to live up to, I don't know how well I do though.

My favorite book series growing up was The Lord of The Rings, and I take a similar approach to writing that Tolkien did in that I create my worlds first and the story second. Most of my stories are written for the world or its characters, instead of writing the other way around. I even created my own script called Aphuanian that I use in sigils and promotional material.

I loved Sailor Moon so much I made everyone in my house hate it! Looking back at the series it’s really obvious how much of the show sunk into my work subconsciously- female protagonists, adventure plots, wacky interpersonal dynamics, comedy mixed with melodrama. It especially still feels stuck in my art style. I’ll always love those 90s expressions!

Anime from this decade and the 2000s meant so much to me that I’ve genuinely been lamenting how hard it is for me to get into modern day anime. Such is life I suppose.

I had a lot of favorites. I love Scooby-Doo, Ella Enchanted, Nancy Drew, Boxcar Children, Charlie Bone. Like a lot of women, good female protagonists are important to me. Even as a kid, I liked seeing female characters have an active role in the stories and that they couldn't solve their problems on their own. I like seeing female characters in a healthy team dynamic.

The Charlie Bone series was incredibly important to me as a kid. It was the first series that I read where all of the characters in the MC's friend group were important to the storyline. They all had their own individual issues and struggled with their developing superpowers. While the MC had a central role in the action, Charlie still got to be a nervous ten-year-old. He knew he didn't know everything, so he was more than happy stepping aside to allow his friends to take the lead on an adventure. Even the little girls in the story had active roles, they weren't simply there to fill the role of "love interest".

It's stories like that that make me gravitate toward strong group dynamics and played a role in inspiring my main series.

Roald Dahl books were among my favorites as a kid. Many of his stories have to do with exceptional kids who use cunning and intuition to deal with the cruel and overbearing adults in their lives, which is part of what Nachos Con Carne is all about.

Everything I know about humor I learned from a lifetime of watching British comedies. I grew up watching the classics--Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, etc.
I discovered Monty Python when I was nine years old. I've been a huge fan ever since.

I found, on my grandmother's shelves, a book titled Dumb-Bell and Others, the Great Dog Stories by John Taintor Foote.

It was published in 1946 and I can still remember the feel of those very thick pages from the paper they used back then and that smell that old books get, not to mention how yellowed and brittle the pages were.

I devoured every story and cried and cheered at many. I still remember several of them. I would love to be able to write in such a way that a person, decades after reading something I wrote, would remember it with such fondness.

If I had to mention a tv show that I really loved as a kid and still influences me to this day, it would have to be Adventure Time.

It shaped my artstyle a lot and sometimes, you can still find some of its influences of my work. I loved to lose myself in the mysterious land of Ooo, with its magical and sometimes dark, yet fascinating places and characters. I just loved the idea of visiting another unknown location and going on another wacky adventure with my favourite characters.

I also really loved the brother-like relationship between Finn and Jake, which is an element I really love and is also present in my story.

If I had to mention a book, though, it would've to be Geronimo Stilton's books, in particular the hero saga. I don't know if these kinds of books are produced outside of Italy as well, but I can assure you, they were really enjoyable to read as a kid.

It inspired me to take a different approach with narration and prompted me to write a hero saga of mine as a kid (which I never unfortunately completed ) and draw digitally.

Star Wars was always my biggest obsession throughout childhood (and even now at this point too), and definitely my biggest influence on everything I make today. I also absolutely adored the Teen Titans cartoon that aired 2003-2007; the mix of humor, action, and legitimate drama all in a kid-friendly, anime-inspired package was just what I needed at the time; in fact I wrote my very own fancomic for Teen Titans in 4th grade that lasted something like 30 "issues" because I had so much fun with it (and also wanted very much to keep the character Terra alive; I thought she was so cool). I am probably also forever changed by Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64, one of the best RPG games.

And obviously, anything Jim Henson related, I was all there for.

There's a lot of other stuff but those were probably the main ones. I'd like to revisit a lot of old childhood favorites someday and try to figure out how they must have influenced my writing style and sense of humor.

Detective conan is the biggest inspiration for my comic. But I only started watching the show when I was 14.
I love that it's not only about the cases, but about the characters as well. In many shows they don't really have good characters. I like to focus on my characters and their struggles.

I've loved watching cop shows since I've been a kid.
This one was my favorite when I was around 4-8.

Dr. Seuss books and Ed, Edd n Eddy have always been some of my favorite stuff. Thanks to still owning some of the books (like Go, Dog, Go!) as well as reliving some of the movies on various streaming service, their strangely relaxed yet energetic styles have blended into my works. They're almost rhythmic in a sense when I look at them.

While I never actually attempted to draw these characters (yet), I've taken cues from how they go about character and world design. Honestly, I started to figure that out when I started watching the Eds again. It's wild!

For books:
Madeline was my favorite book as a young child. I always like the simple illustrations and I think I sort of like how scary things would happen yet things turned out fine in the end.

As a teen I was into Dragon Ball and DBZ which inspired me to draw more and got me into creating my own comics.

The Pigman & Me is what I blame when it comes to me wanting to make things dark and depressing. I feel like this book shifted my perspective on the world as a young child.

For shows:
I watched a lot of Simpsons growing up and I feel like I was inspired by the whole concept of situational comedy and dark humor.
